84 280i starting issues
Discussion
Recently drove the car to the registration office. When I came out car started fine but then died. Would not start after that. Let car sit for a couple of hours and it started and I drove it home.
The next morning I started the car and let it idle for awhile and it died. Restarted fine, ran for a couple of minutes and died again. This is a current repeatable issue.
Some time ago I had a similar issue and changed the accumulator and it fixed that issue. Could something be causing the accumulator to fail?
Thanks,
Millard

Does the idle hunt at a cold start, rpm's raising and falling, until it gets warm? If so this is a sure sign the mixture is running too rich. Look to see if the adjustment screw still has the blanking cap over it, if not then it's surely been played with at some point.
If the 02 sensor hasn't been changed in a while it's worth swapping it out. AutoZone / O'Rielly's has them for $20. It's a Bosch single wire sensor part# 11027. When I changed mine it made a huge difference. That and new injectors
I currently have a hot start issue wth mine. From a warm / hot start the rpm's ramp up to 1600 rpm for about 2 or 3 minutes before falling to a smooth idle at 900 rpm. Cold starts are perfectly fine.
Cheers, Gavin.

I think I agree with Marcus and look for air leaks. If you can keep it running on the peddle get someone to spray some WD40 or starter fluid around the intake hose from the air box and other vacuum lines. See if the engine ramps which would indicate a bad hose.
Does winding out the idle screw do anything?
