Hi there

Ive got an Rs Turbo with a faulty engine, rather then have the cost of fixing it can i just drop an XR3I engine in and fit the turbo parts to that? Is the engine the same? I know the basic engine is but is the head the same and the pistons etc to cope with the extra hp etc ??

Regards

there are various things that are different like no oil feed for the turbo and a few other bits. i believe the xr3i engine can be modified to take the turbo bits and am sure all the internals are the same. google it im sure there are lots of sites with the info.

Whats wrong with the old engine?

You'll need to do loads of stuff to make that work, and it'll cost you either way. The cheapest option if the old engine really has had it would be replacement ZVH (turbo)

Or, if you can get the 3i engine and loom, drop that in to get you on the road

been there tried it as a cheap quick option, cost fcensoreding hundreds to sort out in the end, pistons are different and tou end up cooking the lot, 3i pistons are already high compression, turbo have to be low compression, you could do it but you will have to turn your boost down to around 2psi or its goes bang, big time, after 2 days of mucking about getting ours to fit on test drive after 40 mins on a motorway going boys day out spent 2hrs waiting for recovery truck, lol the st you do when your young

as said above, its possible but pointless. rebuild the current engine. It does not cost alot to rebuild the whole engine.
