Focus ST Diesel?
Discussion
i think this is very likely, especially in the current economic climate
as previously said with the D5, the D5 C30 (based on the focus) does 0 - 60 in 7.5 seconds (177 bhp)
couple that performance, with focus ST looks, and a official combined cycle figure of 45 MPG and i honestly believe ford would be onto a winner,
it would certainly appeal to a lot of company car drivers

i cant see it would cost that much to develop really
and im convinced it would sell very well
i can see why theyve not done it already, it downplays the ST brand as being a bit boring and diesely maybe
but with the RS due, it would seperate the two brands
ST = fast ford but sensible enough for your gran
RS = proper fast ford
on a separate note, i think its a huge shame the RS didnt get rear wheel drive

Doesnt the 2.2 ford/psa diesel kick out about 175bhp (approx) these days? I expect that'd be cleaner and more efficient, even if the D5 does make quite a nice noise (for a diesel).
I guess the main issue, would be that it'd be quicker than the mondeo, which might be a problem for Ford?
I think it'd be a cracking car though, whichever engine it came with.

not sure, my mondeo ST TDCI kicks out a healthy 155 and 400 NM torque. Can be chipped to see 200 for around £3 - 400 easilyI guess the main issue, would be that it'd be quicker than the mondeo, which might be a problem for Ford?

I just wish they would make a new Mondeo ST. Mine will need replacing sometime and I will not replace it until they make a new one. I drove a Titanium X, it was nice, but no where near as sharp to drive as the ST.
I would consider a Focus ST.... Come on Ford.
Dont the do a sport pack on the titanium X now? Or is that just a bodykit? Have you tried one with the big wheels on? And the 2.5 engine is surely reasonably quick isnt it?
As for chipping the diesel...I had a 2.0TDCi and had that chipped and it made plenty of difference, so I guess (in theory) you could do the same to the current focus diesel, as effectively its the same engine!?

I dont know about the sport pack, if it does include different springs then I could do with finding one to try.As for chipping the diesel...I had a 2.0TDCi and had that chipped and it made plenty of difference, so I guess (in theory) you could do the same to the current focus diesel, as effectively its the same engine!?
Yes the 2.5 is quick, but I cover 30k-35k a year. I would prefer a diesel.
And finally, I really have enjoyed my current ST TD. It is great to hustle along twisty roads, yet still capable of towing 1800kg with a huge boot full of kit.
I did drive a few Foci, and the 2.0 TDCI was every bit as quick as my mondeo, but I disliked the steering, and the Ghia spec one I drove rolled too much. It surprised me that I thought the bigger mondeo felt better when pushed round a long corner, but it seemed too.
And finally, just over a year ago, when I got my car serviced, one of the sales people gave me a call and tried to sell me a new mondeo. When I said that I liked the ST, he said that there was a good chance of a V6 diesel on the horizon. A chap here, (Ford service technician) also said it was looking hopeful.
Now, 1 year later, there has been nothing in Motoring press, nothing from Ford, I guess the idea has been dropped. Shame. Because now I want one

To be honest, I quite fancy the idea of a used Jag XJ TDVI, or XF Diesel. Or BMW 330d, or 535d, or 335d. Maybe once I have killed my current car, it is time for a change.
Anyway, I plan to run my current car into the ground, I have already taken the depreciation hit!

I guess the V6 has been shelved now, especially as they have the 2.2 kicking out 175bhp. Although they have just upgraded the jag 2.7 diesel to 3 litres, so maybe they could use the old 2.7 in the mondeo, I think it's already used in a couple of the PSA cars....it certainly would be nice and smooth and I think suit the mondeo perfectly.
