Focus 1999 central locking problem

I have a T Reg Focus 1.4. whenever I go to unlock the car in the morning i put the key in the drivers door which obviously unlocks immediately but the other doors can take anywhere up to 5 mins to unlock!!! ( i don't have remote central locking)
It seems the colder the day the worse it is but it dosent have to be frosty for it to play up.
After driving for 10 mins the locks respond perfectly so it would seem that the problem is linked to the temperature.
I wondered if the battery was a bit low so I stuck it on recharge last weekend but that has made no difference.
Anyone have any suggestions as it's driving me mad!!
