Fiesta zetec 'stutter' & fast idle?

I have just purchased a 98 Fiesta 1.4 zetec. I have noticed that it tends to idle at around 1500rpm and when on the move if I lift my foot off of the throttle and apply it again there almost appears a stutter as throttle is re-applied after throttle is back on car pulls well as I would expect. Could this be a injector issue? Any suggestions would be great cheers!

Sounds like automatic choke is sticking on or idle control valve have a look in your haynes manual assuming you have one take them both off and give them a good clean up should sort it out. you might find that you have to do it every 12 months or buy new but wouldn't say buy new until you definitely know what it is.

Try give the IACV a good clean out with carb cleaner or the likes(Make sure its totally dry before you re-fit)

^Thats what it looks like on a 1600Zetec.

Mine used to have a heavy missfire because the plugs were a little shot. Maybe worth a quick service?

Try asking on Pumapeople.com. I've not experienced it myself but have seen a few threads regarding this over the years on that website, and it seems likely it would affect both cars as they have the same underpinnings.

Sounds similar to symptoms I had which were traced to a faulty coolant temp sender.

Thanks for the help, I have cleaned the idle control valve and reset the ECU but no difference. I will give the throttle position switch a try once I can find a suitable tool to remove the torx bolts that hold it in place. I will give the plugs a check as well along with the coolant temp sender. Cheers
