Hi - My brother's car has started to misfire when the throttle is pressed and it also struggles to reach and will not pass 70 mph. I have changed the plugs and the old ones were dry and the correct colour. The exhaust does have a small leak but nothing bad. It has also been noticed that the coolant has for some reason gone over the max line. Any ideas?

Coil pack or leads mate. Could be water in the plug wells if the engine has been cleaned recently.

have you taken off the oil cap to see what the oil looks like sounds like symptoms of a head gasket

Had this on a 2.0 '03 Focus, turned out to be the coil. Because i'm lazy and drove the car like this for a few weeks it also killed the cat, think the coil cost me £25 from local motor factors, simple, quick job to replace.

Had a friend who had this on a 2.0 litre Si Mondeo, we changed the coil pack and plugs and leads, but turned out to be lack of compression, the car had done about 130k from memory
