Hi All

The Mrs has just driven home and reported the nearside dipped beam has stopped working on her '53 plate mk1 "facelift" Focus (indicators in headlights). Can anyone tell me which bulb I need? I'm guessing H7 but can't trust the local Halfrauds to advise me... Oh, and are they an easy fit?

Thanks, Richard.

yer it is h7 bulb for the normal headlights, ( dip beam) 501 capless for the sidelights, and h1 for the main beam, i founf if you undo the two 10mm bolts to pull the unit forward slighty thats makes it a lot lot easier and saves on a few swear words lol

Yes, H7

Yes, absolute nightmare. Even when you are holding the headlamp unit in your hands it isn't easy as the dipped beam lampholder is right in the corner of the hole exposed by removing the back cover. With the battery in place - no chance!
Second time I did it I undid the two obvious mounting bolts plus the third which is accessed by putting a socket with a ratchet up between the front skirt and the mudguard liner (Haynes suggests pulling the liner aside but this isn't necessary). May be a bit of fiddling with the plastic radiator grille as well.
Allow about 60 to 90 minutes. Thankfully the mudguard liner keeps the under-wing area nice and clean -as it should.

Thanks all for your replies. Bulb changed this afternoon. 35 minutes with a stubborn battery retaining strap bolt... good old wd40!

This bulb fitting is on Halfords 'do not touch' list.

I got the wife to goto a Ford dealership, play dumb (not hard), and they changed it for free.

Yes it is on the "Do Not Attempt" list... but if you get someone like myself when i used to work there, i would have done it for you.
