I've been offered a Sapphire Cosworth for £1500.

White, 2wd, G reg, leather interior, standard in every way...... needs a bit of welding, bodywork & has been sat for around a year

I've had Ford's in the past, only Fiesta's though & i'm mainly into VW's now (Golf VR6)

I grew up around Ford's as my Dad worked for a Ford dealership...... he should be able to sort any fiddly problems

I'm ok with spanner's so general maintenance I can do myself

My brother does paint & bodywork for a living, so welding & paintwork will be his job....... He's already had a look at it & he's happy with it

Should I buy it ??

Buy it, restore the body and clean the engine up adding a few simple mods and you have an iconic car for not a lot of money. One that will probably never lose you a penny in depreciation and make a profit if the right buyer comes along.

Worst case scenario it blows up and your left with a hunk of junk to break for scrap which will probably bring in half your cash. Of course make sure it has an immobiliser fitted or it wont be yours very long.

Its the right wheel drive as long as the YB lump is servicable then get it bought! If the rear arches are shot dont waste your time sorting out new quaters/repair panels as once you start you'll be chasing rust out all around it, go get a nice late plate 1.8lx and drop in the mechanicals and you'll have a nice wee drift weapon!

Moral of the story......GET IT BOUGHT!

It's got a cat 1 alarm/immobiliser that's less than 2 years old...... I've got a good steering lock i'd stick on too

Won't be parked on the street, will be in garage or at least back yard that's got a 6ft fence/gate thats always locked....... if I take it to work, it will be parked where i can see it from my office window...... only 10m or so away lol

sound like a serious bargain, get your brother to check for crash damage if he hasnt already and check the cars identity. then buy it as it is an amazing bargain. make it mint and it would probably fetch £5k, or keep it as it will blow away your vr6.

good to see you didnt waste any time. it would also be good to see it in readers cars and see the progress as you improve it if you can be bothered.

my brothers had a REALLY good look around it today, he can't find any crash damage

looks good rust wise..... needs a bit of welding on one of the sills & rear arches look pretty good to, just a bit of surface rust on them

done.... all's good

only thing we can't 100% confirm is mileage..... clocks say 66,000 but the driver's seat bolster looks closer too 100,000

Sounds like a cheap car as long as all the I.D. stacks up okay.

I'd rather not re-shell it personally if it were mine but do what you feel is right.

Got a huge soft spot for these and a couple of Cosworth badged stuff in our collection.
Let's see some pics or a Reader's Cars thread. smile

To be honest, a 160,000 mile Cosworth would be worth way more than £1500 anyway! they are worth much more than that stripped for parts. NOT that suggest you should!

Hope you checked out the insurance costs - could cost more than the car!

No offense, but it really pays here not to use text speak. Or capitals.

If this was in P&P or general gassing you would have received abuse by now.

BTW, my spelling and grammar suck, but spending 2 minutes to make sure a post is easy to read is worth it.

On topic, Brilliant buy. I am very jealous. Currently going through the same thing with an Audi S6 I paid that for, but I would far prefer a cosworth. Nice. Any pics?
