Powers do a drive in, drive out for £4500. At least, it is listed on the website, but may be out of date.

A lot of ancillaries are changed at the same time as listed. This has shot up a bit in the last few years, unsurprisingly, and there may be cheaper, but you'll get a good warranty with it. I have only bought parts from him myself, but he is well regarded:

Lloyd Developments in Wiltshire are around £2500 installing a Kent cam. Be careful with the cheaper quotes as there seems to be problems with the lifters supplied in the UK. Mine only lasted 15k miles before needing replacing again.

£4.5 k for a cam!!! yikes Jeez. If again, if I had to, I'd go Piper 285. It's a days work barring any 'needed' work.

why is it so expensive ?

a stealth cam kit from V8D is £950 which includes followers, chain and gaskets

its a about 10 hour labour to swap a cam with the engine in the car I'd say

whats powers labour rate these days ?

Around £2000 seems sensible, £1000 for a cam kit is a bit ott for my liking though but you don't have a lot of choice these days.
You do need to take care with lifters though, it's a bit of a minefield but I would expect a respected engine builder to fit decent ones.

you may be right, real steel whom I used to buy from a lot still show a 'typhoon' cam at £335 + cloyes timing chain and wheel for £85 and a set of standard lifters for £118 + uprated springs fr £108 + gasket set at £58

so £704 total? and thats stock lifters which I don't think you usually want with a high lift cam as they 'pump' up and lose lift over 5000rpm

so £950 for all matched parts maybe not so bad , especially as the V8D cam is a better stick than the typhoon one

Apparently V8D developed their cams specifically for the engine but don't know the truth in it. Seems online a lot of people say to steer clear of the likes of Kent and piper due to lifter quality.
Did read somewhere real steels cams were ground by comp cams but again don't know the truth in it.
There are others mentioned in the RV8 groups such as Crower and Newman but i know very little about them.
