Smith & Allan Mineral Oil
Discussion
Has anyone used this brand of lubricant? Extremely well priced and you can buy in 20L and 203L quantities. Works out at like £2.90/L when buying the 20L, which is half the price of the equivalent Valvoline VR1. It also has higher zinc content of 1500ppm vs 1300ppm of the Valvoline. Thoughts?

Its always difficult with regards to oil on what to choose as you will get someones personal recommendation based on what they have been told too.
I have looked at them in the past and decided i am not willing to trust them as i know so little about the company.
I would always spend a little more for a trusted brand, after all its the lifeblood of your engine.
The answer should be if it meets the specs you require in reality it will be ok but again how do you know its been tested accordingly.
A real minefield engine oil choice can be.
Personally I always used a modern semi/full synthetic as i am of the opinion it is more than enough to protect these engines, powers performance probably the most respected of the TVR engine builders used to specify a 10/40 semi in their rebuilds, I think it used to be a Shell product.
Originally I think the serp Rover v8 was specified for a 10/40 semi and the earlier pre serp a 20/50 possibly due to oil pump design.
Assuming its a Rover V8 Engine if you currently use 20/50 VR1.
