I’ve just taken the plunge and bought a Tuscan Speed 6, I’ve owned one years ago and remembered the keeping the revs low until oil temperature is over 60c!, what I’ve forgotten though is when checking the oil on one is it with the engine warm or cold?.
I know on other cars it’s usually best with the engine cold but distinctly remember the Speed Six being different, or am I imagining it?.

Also, I can’t believe I’ve gone so long without owning a TVR!, I know they’re not the quickest, or the sharpest things
Out there anymore but I love this car!.

As the Speed 6 is dry sump, it's with engine warm, just after turning the engine off , as the oil will drain back from the tank fairly quickly.

I have found it useful to run the hot engine at 2000rpm and then let the engine idle just momentarily before turning off, then check the oil level.
In my car, there is significantly more oil in the tank at tickover than at 2000rpm .
Raising the revs above 2000rpm makes no difference.

Being a bit over max is better than letting it get much under as well as the excess will sit in the tank.

Off to Scotland next week and would be interested to know if I've used much oil but have never been able to take a reading and be confident it was accurate. Checking when hot and engine just turned off sometimes shows it overfull, other times nothing.
The tip I was given after a service was check when cold and the car had been sitting overnight, if there's a couple of mm on the stick it should be ok.
I've probably only checked a handful of times between services in the last 10 years, but keep an eye on oil pressure, not an accurate guide though, and carry a litre in the boot for emergencies.

A little off topic but what oil are people using?

When I had my Tuscan, I soon learned to keep an old gardening glove handy to wear when removing the filler cap - be warned it gets very hot!

Powers, who similarly warranty their own engine rebuilds, also say 10w40 semi synth.
