my chim 500 has an annoying habit of sitting at 2000rpm. At first it only happened from cold as the temp gauge raised thru 68-72. Now it seems to do it all the time ,after asking my local dealer they suggested cleaning stepper motor & checking throttle butterfly also setting base idle (which i did do via their advice & the bible) this has made no difference which thru' my total lack of knowledge is what i expected. The car is due back at dealers soon for MOT & end of warranty check and this problem will be checked out but any advice is appreciated

my 5l chimey had a bit of an irregular idoling problem, I was advised to use Shell optimax 98 octane fuel instead of the super unleaded. Seems to have made a huge difference to its behaviour, much more stable and smoother ...worth a go?!!

thanks simon unfortunately been using optimax since i got it.i have convinced my self(with no evidence BTW)that it has something to do with the ECU thinking the engine is cold and causing problems as it only happens at about 70 and never at higher temps like i say no evidence so this might be a complete load of rubbish but anyone feel free to put me right

try disconnecting the wiring to the ecu (footwell) counting to 20 then reconnect.
This should re-set the ECU to factory presets. Erm, I believe.

It also clears any diagnostic fault codes which means that if this is a bit of an intermittent problem then the dealer will not get any info from the ECU and it will/may come up saying everything is fine.
