RE: M@H's TVR Chimaera
Discussion
Jessica,
Matt's TVR is a 4ltr, as opposed to your 5ltr. It's also 4 years older. He lives somewhere in Herefordshire, which would be more insurance friendly than Manchester. Also, you say you've got no NCB if you take 60% off what you paid, that brings it down to a more bearable £900 odd.
Although, that does look a very competitive price Matt got.
Assuming you have full NCB on your other car, I would try and work out some way of transferring the bonus onto the TVR.
Finally, welcome to TVR ownership.
Neil.

Jessica, when you come to renewing your policy, get as many quotes as you possibly can, and then get a few more!
I got 33 quotes (first time I've actually counted them
) that ranged from the worst at £1911 from the AA to the best at £835 (with a £270 excess) from NU Direct (with 2 years NCB). However, most were around the £1100 - £1400 mark, and it would've be quite easy to settle for that as apparently being the 'correct' price.
I use my TVR for business and exceed the stated mileage for restricted policies, so I had to go for 'normal' insurance, but of the specialist TVR insurers, Cheam (020 8770 1001) gave the best price for me, and I got my NU Direct policy through Bid4MyBusiness.
Happy motoring (make sure you get your 2K's worth!
).

Best not mention how much mine was again - its a hit and miss game at the best of times. Try shopping around now and see what you can get. Would recommend trying Elephant.co.uk (dont laugh they are very competitive), direct line (they are crap for me for some reason!), A Mannings and Sunninghill Insurance - all are good for TVR insurance....
Probably worth getting out of your current insurance as well - even if they do fine you...
Cheers,
Paul

£2,135 is a polite way of saying they don't really want your business.
Is the TVR your only car? If it is not and you have another car with a NCB then some insurers like Cheam will mirror (ie. duplicate) the NCB on your existing policy.
If you cannot get anyone to do this for you or if your TVR is your only car then shop around asking for a good introductory discount. Being an over-30 female should make you a good risk (apparantly) so you should get one.

Thanks you lot for that.
I do have another car. a grande espace, and all my no claims are taken up there.
i rang privlege and they wanted.950 for my bus and 1,200 for chim. but if i cancel my policies the amount i lose would cancel out what i standed to gain. i did incidently call 7 diff comp. and they were all about the same.
Had to insure quick. guess they knew that ..
i am usually good and do the ring around at insurance time. Had a minor bump in my bus last yr that,s what properly did it.(popped my sill on a low brick wall in bus) £700 to pay wish i hadn,t done it on insurance now but ho hum..We live and learn.
