TVR Dealership
Discussion
Not a great day weather wise up here in the Staffs/Cheshire area so I decided to leave the Chimaera in the garage. Had already decided to go for a run with the wife, get some lunch and have a look at the TVR dealership in Northwich, Cheshire! I had managed to interest her in looking at purchasing a newer TVR. We had a look around the showroom but my wife did not like the look of the Tuscans etc. She did like the Cerbie but pointed out that as it was not a rag top it was not what we wanted - can't fault her really. We had been in the place for some fifteen minutes and the two staff had not made any approach to ask if they could help. Now don't get me wrong, I like space to at least get into the building, but this was stretching the golden five minute rule - let them get in, then engage the punter etc, etc.
Wife got fed up and said that she felt that we should now leave as they, the staff, obviously had more important things to do than to even try to talk to the only punters in the bloody place!!
I don't give up that easily, so I approached, with caution, the male member of staff. I explained that I was looking for a 5ltr Chimaera or Griff. Could he help/had he got any in stock - NO - was the answer and that appeared to be the end of my audience with the man. I did not even get the chance to ask if he could contact me in the event that they got one in!!!
Now some of you charitable folks out there will be thinking - the dealer thought that I was a low life tyre kicker. Well maybe, but that is part of a dealerships life. The fact is that I was very keen to move up a level or two in my TVR ownership experience. It is also true that we did not arrive in the TVR - I turned up in my three week old Jag - that explains it then!
I have already made an appointment to have a test drive with another TVR Dealership near Burton. He told me that he did not have in what I wanted, but to go over and he would try to look after me and he would give me a test drive in one of his Cerbies!
You never know he could just change my mind.
I have just realised that it must be a "Cheshire thing"
Bloody snob.
Rant now over.
Cheers

I'd like to say it's not a Cheshire thing as I'm from Cheshire but unfortunately you did receive the typical welcome from perhaps the worst dealership in the world - oh for a small thermonuclear device to wipe that blot of the landscape!!! I'd recommend pretty much any other TVR dealership in the land.
I had great treatment when I bought my Cerbie at TMS when James Agger was still there. He's now set up as an independent so might be worth having a word with him to try and source you something to your liking.
Good luck in your search!!

Not the only dealer of this kind from my experience!

I visited 'my' dealer when I was looking for my used Chimaera. I explained I currently had a Morgan which was on the market. I asked about a test drive, to which he replied he could arrange a test 'if he thought I was really serious about buying!'
I returned after a few months (having sold my Mog) and despite being spotted by the salesman, it was 45 mins before he came across to us and then finally I got my test drive - although he said it would depend on whether he thought I would be able to handle the car!
My wife was also less than impressed as he directed all the talk to me only - which she took offence to. We eventually bought our car privately.
