I have seen lots of threads on the relative merits of Optimax/Super/Regular etc, and also the fact that TVR seem to give the wrong advice on petrol at times, and also that it seems to depend on which TVR you drive!

I'm confused.

It's probably fairly subjective, but can anyone give us the definitive word on which petrol is best for which type/year of TVR. No doubt Super versus Optimax will likely be a personal choice, and given that Optimax is a relatively new option on the forecourts, I presume the only real facts are which cars have been tuned for Regular and which for Super.

I was always told to only ever use Super, but that the odd tank of Regular Unleaded will do no harm if you can't find a petrol station selling Super (and many don't).

I've had a 4.0 Chim, a 4.5 Chim and now a 4.5 Cerbera, and the advice from my dealers has been the same for all three (use Super!)

Is this correct?

My Griff 500 has a manufacturer's sticker by the petrol filler stating only to use 98 octane... thank God for Optimax... as most so called 'supers' I've found are only 97!

Tis in the bible (a decision chart to guide you through the selection next time you fill up) and on my Website in the unleaded FAQ.

Had my 400 adjusted to run on regular 95ron and didn't notice any loss of performance at all. So, should/could I do the same with the 500 or is it more likely there would be some compromise?

Guys/Girls, lots of threads and individual posts make lots of good points, and all show multiple versions of the truth.

I'm less interested one person's experience of having a go with Optimax etc etc etc.

What's the true version of the truth (if you catch my drift).

Also, the bible doesn't cover all models (e.g. Cerbera) so that's not the full answer.

Can anyone connected to TVR, or to a reputable independant give us a steer?

Cheers

I'm sure someone from Shell will catagorically tell you that Optimax is the best...
