Idle curiosity really, but why do so many of you blank out the number plate on the pictures of your car?

Is it to deter thieves (not sure how), or to prevent other TVR drivers copying the plate to have you carry the can for their misdemeanours ... or is it just that someone else did it once and so you all do.

I'd blank my plate but I'd have to change my name and it's too bloody difficult to think of one!!

Dear Mr Insurance Company,

Regarding my recent claim for accident damage to my car amounting to £6478.95, you have stated that you need to know the exact circumstances of the incident in order to process the matter further.

As I was travelling along the A421 into Milton Keynes, a light blue car (TVR Tamora, reg no K3 NJW) dangerously overtook a lorry on the exit of the roundabout at the junction with the B4034.

As a result, I was forced to take avoiding action which resulted in my hitting a lamp post. The driver of the other car did not stop.

Yours sincerely,

A Scroat

So what is to stop "A Scroat" selecting any car in the street to try such a scam?

Nothing.

But if he doesn't have your plate, car details and rough idea of where you live, it probably won't be yours!

Also, have you considered just how many members of PistonHeads there are? If you go by the regular posters then you'd think it was a nice cosy community but in reality for every person that posts there are probably 100 lurkers who read what you write but never reveal themselves by posting.

You can't please all of the people all of the time and at some stage you're likely to upset someone. I for one would rather not have people knowing my car and registration number in case they target either the car or my home.
It is enough of a risk letting it be known what town you live in and (from the photo of my car) what car I have and its colour, but showing its registration mark as well is just asking for trouble.

I blank the numberplates on all pictures I publish out of courtesy for others who may feel the same way as I do. I don't have their permission to publish their numberplates and I'm certainly not going to go to the trouble of asking everyone, so I blank them all out.

okey dokey .... time for a name change then, and a car change, then I'll move house and Bob's your uncle anonymity restored.

By the way, there are websites from which a name gets you adresses, telephone numbers and the rest, oh, then there's cctv watching your every move and soon enough we'll all have ID cards, and satelite trackers in the car to bill you for your travelled mileage, and DNA records of most of us exist before it becomes legal .... don't want to upset the paranoid amongst us but our cards are all marked ... unless we're an illegal immigrant in which case we just take the cash and remain anonymous.

J3SUS ! Looks like we've got a detective in the ranks !

Come-on, it's Friday, lets all lighten up....

BTW, I'm more worried about being caught genuinly speeding, than 1 person to acuse me of dangerous driving becasue I don't discuse my number plate(because lets face it, 1 person saying you were driving like a loony will never stand up to Police/Court/Insurance company, need 2 whitnesses !)

I've never bothered blanking out my plate in pictures. The fact that anyone who sees the car in the flesh - driving by, parked, on track days etc can just read the plate, I'm not sure of the point of hiding it in photos.

For those of you who are fascinated where PDV6 and Mrs V6 live I can confirm they do not live at that address. I'm not particularly impressed that some kind of point scoring stalker is on PH trying to guess members addresses and publish them on the forum. We know there are websites out there where with basic information you can obtain further information.....

Accordingly I've filed an abuse report.

Any Posts that are missing where deleted by me.

I believe if a PH'er wishes there details to be public then they would have them in there profile and not need anyone else making them public without there say so.
