Got my 99 Chimaera 450 down at Racing Green and it needs new rear shocks. TVR can't apparently supply the Bilsteins at the moment and rather than wait ad infinitum I'm looking for alternatives. RG suggested they could fit AVOs. So what's the advice - wait for the Bilsteins or get the AVOs?

Well I'm currantly waiting for AVO's, and they've been on order about a month Half the price of TVR standard fit and twice the warrenty And the longer I have to wait the more paydays I have and so can actually afford them, just hope it's sorted before Le Mans

Personally I don't rate AVOs all that highly, in terms of performance and reliability. At least they're cheap.

Ordered some AVOs from Steve Reid (www.classictvr.com) a couple of days ago and missed the delivery this morning. This was after talking to a couple of people at Folembray who had fitted AVOs and preferred them over standard. At £65 each, they're a fairly cheap upgrade although I have read both negative and positive comments on here...

Needing replacements shortly, been warned that AVOs aren't that good compared to Billys. Do Koni make shocks for TVR, I have always had good stuff from them.

I've found the AVOs an improvement on standard fit, and cheaper. Had all 4 done when I got the car. I expect the other around £1K mark would be better, obviously

Thnx all. As Ross pointed out a mixed bag here. Well Racing Green said they can get AVOs overnight so I'm going to have these fitted tomorrow. I'm not getting many days in the UK at the moment and can't waste sunny days with no wheels while TVR get the Bils. I'll see how the AVOs go and report back. Looking at previous shocker threads, there's some debate about what settings to use for general road use - any recommendations?

if racing green don't have them in stock they'll have to pull some pretty big strings .. AVO don't have any in stock, or didn't the other day when I chased up my massive order of 6 car sets with them.. they promised them the end of this week though, and we're almost there so maybe you really wil only have to wait another day .. hopefully they'll all be sent out at once.

I have had AVO's on the back of my Chim 400 for 2 years now and never had a problem. In fact the car handles a lot better than some other makes on.

If you are changing the shocks look at also doing the springs and bushes, this will ensure the best handling from a new package.

Set the rears up at 9 clicks for track days and 7 for the road.

Just picked up the Chimaera from its 12k service from Racing Green. AVOs fitted - wonderful to drive again without the intrusive knocking from the back over every bump. Slightly lower so will have to take care over the local bumps. Everything felt sooooo smooooth after its pampering and the doors once again shut perfectly. Now all we need is some decent weather to get the top off and enjoy it. Thanks to Martin and his team at Racing Green.

Bought a set of AVOs just haven't had time to fit them yet, are you aware that for about the first 500 miles you should have them on zero setiing otherwise they dont bleed properly.
