Speed 12 Questions

Could someone tell me the difference between the original Speed 12 (GT1) and the Cerbera Speed 12. I love the car and was just curious after reading another discussion about the car on another site. Exactly how many were built? If someone could provide a link or maybe send me a zip of some pictures I'd truly appreciate it. [e-mail]

Better late than never ?
The original Speed 12 was on a Cerbera Chassis with a very different body , they then cut it in half and widened it by about 6 inches, not sure if they made 2 certainly no more, racing regs (doing away with GT1) killed it
The Cerbera speed 12 was based more on the regular cerbera, was going to be a V10 originally, don't know how many built only a few though.
It was sad that the original was axed.

Another (silly?) question. I have been daydreaming about this for a long long time: Do you think it is possible to fit a Speed 12 engine in a XJ220?

Thanks Top Fuel. I believe I remember seeing a picture of a white Speed 12 with blue stripes and a wing on the back. What series did the car race in? British GT. Also, on the pics of the Cebera Speed 12 you posted I noticed the first had an extra headlight. Anybody know why?

As well as an extra light, the headlights are set differently, there is a side air scoop, it has not mirrors and the windscreen wipers are set opposite.

I believe that the sketchy coloured (I should probally learn the proper term for that sort of colour) one is one of the very early cars, if not the first.

The white car you mention was run in the British GTs in 2001 (car #12) driven by Ashley Ward and Jonathan Rowland and it ran alongside the "more factory" Black #27 car of Micheal Caine and Bobby Verdon-Roe.

The white car was origenally gonna be Run by Countdown that year but, I think money saw to that!

The first Cebera Speed 12 was the Scania backed works car in 2000 and TVR ran one in Purple last year too.

If you look at the Blue race (i'll get you a pic) car and the Silver road one the headlights are arranged different on those too:- TVR can never make thier minds up about lights can they! (Tuscan R reference)


I'll try to dig out some pics of the Cebera Speed 12 race cars from my shots on the PC, but don't hold your breath, I'm crap with computers!!!

IMHO the Speed 12 has better lines than some of their more recent attempts. Why they didn't just drop the Sp12 shell onto a Chimaera chassis (or variant) and watch the shekels roll in is a mystery. The Cerb Sp12 looks like some sad short bloke who does steroids and spends too much time in the gym.

Couldn't agree with you more Ian. The Speed 12 is a lovely looking car, and the 4.5 Red Rose Cerbera would look after the shell very well . The Cerbera speed 12 is ok, but the original will always be the best (as is so often the case)
