Where do I get those SO2/3s?

Itis definately worth shopping around for the best prices IMO , post where you live , I am sure you will get some contacts to try from the people here, I understand that there are still some SO2s about.

Someone was asking this earlier on the main chat pages I think, so sorry if you've already read it.

I tried several performance tyre specialists who all rated SO2s over Toyo and SO3s (haven't they stopped making these now?) I eventually got two rears from my local Charlie Browns in Huddersfield and even managed to haggle the price down from £180 to £150 each. They got them in the next day.

Headley Tyres near Oxford have S02's for the rears (16") in stock. £135 inc VAT and fitting each.

I guess it all depends where you are located, but always worth shopping around. In the Surrey area I've used Merityre, Guilford Tyres and just got 2 rear from K&P Tyres in Ewell. All have been the best price at the time.

£245 fitted for 2 SO3s (245x45x16) was the best price I got this time round, though I did get quotes as high as £430 for the same tyres elsewhere.

IMO, I'd rate the tyres as:

1. Bridgestone S/02
2. Toyo Proxes-T1
3. Bridgestone S/03


I've tried both the T1 and the S/03 on my Tuscan, and the Toyo beats the new Bridgestone hands down.

I haven't had S/02s on it yet, but did have them on my old MX-5 and they were awesome. About to invest in a set just prior to Le Mans so will let you know how they fair when I get back. However, as they are not readily available anymore (they were officially replaced by the S/03 in this country - but are still sold elsewhere in the world) they are more expensive and harder to come by. But you can get them (see posts here and in "Toyo Proxes or Bridgestone S/02s" in the Tuscan forum.

Just to add a different perspective, I find the S03s better than the old S02s in terms of handling and absolute grip. But that's after some experimentation to find the best pressure (couple of PSI lower for the S03s) and on my car with my suspension setup.

Yeah I remember Lynx tyres from when I used to work in Crawley. They were always the cheapest around but they've quoted my £460 for a new set of S'03's. Found en even cheaper place within a mile of my house in Burgess Hill that'll do them for £430 so I think I'll be going with them, when I can be arsed to get it done that is!!

That was fronts (£198 all in (balancing valves etc) for the 2)

I've just come back from Bracknell tyres having had a pair of 245/45/R16 Bridgestone S03pp's fitted.

£230 all in (£115 per tyre), which was the cheapest I could find in the Hampshire/Berkshire/Surrey area.

The also knew where the jacking points on the Chimaera were and knew what pressure to inflate the tyres to as well. Top marks.

Totally agree ...

Took a little while before I had the pressures right but once I did they were better.

Johno, what were the pressures you finally settled on? I put SO3's all round on my SAAB (16" wheels) and they were much better than the SO2's or Michelin Pilots, but I do think the SO3's are better suited to a 16" wheel rather than 18" for road use. I currently have SO1's front and SO2's rear on my Griff and will be changing to SO3's soon, spider conversion dependent

Also, for trackdays in the SAAB's and SO3's we actually reduced the pressure by 10-15% before starting.

Just been talking to Sheen tyres here in London SW14 , they confirm that SO2s are about in TVR sizes although becoming increasingly difficult to source, worth a try though on 020 8876 8688, they are always very competitive on prices.
