Just said goodbye to my Griff

Very sad moment watching its new owner drive it away. When you have spent so much time and effort looking after a car it is such a wrench letting it go. Good luck with it Ian, I hope you have as much fun with it as I did - and look after it!!

The blow should be softened somewhat by the arrival of my Tuscan Challenge car at the weekend. I will be entering the last 4 rounds this year - I can't wait to see the car, get it prepped and the engine in!!

P.S. If anyone knows of a decent 4x4 for less than £10k, let me know. I also need a trailer to move the new beast about.

Edited to say the Tuscan will be ready for Pistonfest and will be making an appearance there in the Insane Racing Team awning...

How decent (what sort of) a 4x4 do you want ?

You could get a lovely example of an earlier Range Rover for that

I've got a 93K Vogue SE 53k mile FSH, paid 4,500 last year

I was thinking Shogun/Jeep/Trooper, diesel and as late as possible for the money. I'll be pouring money into the bottomless racing pit, so don't want to keep spending money on the road car (repairs or fuel!). I will need a long wheel base as I'll need the space for spare wheels etc - plus it's more stable for towing.

I had (perhaps unfairly) dismissed Land Rovers for being unreliable/expensive to maintain.

I wouldn't discount the Landcruiser Amazon either, fantastic bits of kit (but ridiculously low depreciation (twice the price of landrovers when you get to 8 year old))

Range Rover at least as well put together as the ones you've mentioned (IMHO and in that price range (like I said, mine's only done 53k so should be pretty cheap motoring))

Go on forever and swallow loads of kit. I tow 2 cars with mine!

I am sure you will miss the Griff but will obviously be compensated when you are ready for racing. I guess the last four races does not mean you will be ready for Oulton? I will pop into Insane Racing to say hello and good luck to all on the off chance anyway.

Hi Steve

The car will be ready, but its a question of money, as always. If I can raise some sponsorship I will do an exra round - but I'll be at Oulton regardless, whether racing or not.

And there is the small question of needing another 3 signatures for my National A - but I have another 2 Caterham Roadsport A races at Silverstone on Sunday, so provided I don't DNF, I'm nearly there.

As for a 4x4 - try a Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.0 - rated to 3 1/2 tons tow weight with the proper towbar! Cant say better than that. Oh, and it goes pretty well, comes with leather, aircon, CD and electric everything - the older shape (looks a little dated, but its OK) is going cheap at the moment. Dont pay more than £7000 for a good low mileage one in a decent colour... bought mine for £7000 in blue with black leather from a dealer with below average miles... cracking value for money!
