My son wants a Vauxhall Nova - please help me!!

I`ve brought him up well and taught him right from wrong but now I feel devastated by his total lack of taste!! He has even put up "Max power" posters on his wall. He has also offered to buy me some spray for our exhausts for Fathers day that cause flame outs!
Hopefully he`ll pull through this, he does also love our Chim so there is hope for him. I let him have a little go in it on a private road the other day and it truly frightened him - the fear was in his eyes, this from the boy whoes ridden the worst rides in Florida!!

I'm loving it mate, bit scary at first but it feels great now. I think Badapple has just bought himself a Ducati, the cheeky boy.

I would love a bike but wouldnt trust myself with it.
Did you see Week in Week out last week about the growing number of deaths and accidents involving bikers in Wales? Scary stuff.
Not trying to put you off mate just hope you enjoy it and watch out for the numpties.
Watched the Italian GP500 today. Great race. Rossi is the man.

Lots of deaths because we must have the highest biker to road ratio going round here, all those lovely valley roads you see

Sorry to disagree with all the others....but our son started with a Vauxhall Nova......it wasn't quick...wasn't flash.....but it was cheap to insure and meant he couldn't do over the ton as soon as he ripped up his 'L' plates..........
He now has a great job and is intent on getting a Dax......so...it didn't do him any harm!!!!!!
Everyone has to start somewhere and IMO starting safe is

(1) Lock him in an empty room
(2) Nail the door shut
(3) Push only necessary items through the key hole (a long thin baloon with water in in, cheese strings/ strwberry shoe laces)
(4) Play tapes of V8's constantly over a loud speaker
(5) Break his spirit
(6) Only release him when he has abandoned all ideas about washer LEDS,dustbin exhausts,Spoilers from Demon tweeks, 25 inch wheels made from anthracite/krypton/plankton/carbon/marble
Failing that..get a priest in

You're lucky...my son wants to drive my Chimaera!
He's got a 1.1 Fiesta at the moment, good enough to build up some NCD, though he still wants to bolt on some bolt-on goodies, but I guess we all did that.
Let him drive what he wants, after all we've all been through it.

You've got to be joking!! I was tempted to get a more sensible car when considering a Griff - the 200sx cost 30% more to insure!!

I'm sure that no son whose parents have the taste to but a Tiv, could ever destroy a car in the way some of these have.

Very cheap motoring tho' - biggest bill in the eight years I have owned the car was £158 when I had a new cambelt. It is an 'E' reg saloon - still got the original brake disks, clutch and spare tyre. Now done about 85,000 miles and still going strong. 
I'm in total sympathy with you as my son (who has a weekend job in Halfords!) spends ages looking at the 'max power' bits and bobs on sale that might actually increase the risk of getting it broken into just to see what else he has got fitted inside.

He's also in full time education so his income is not that great either. But he has admitted that there would be a limit to the amount he would spend, and that it might be better to be saving for his next car rather than tarting-up a basic one, but at least it shows he has pride in his car.
