Thinking about getting a TVR...advice please....!

Hi,
Having been driven around by my new man in his very fast and impressively powerful Griff, I am absolutely hooked and am seriously considering trading in my current car for a Chimaera 4.5...(then I may have some chance of keeping up!!)
All (and especially the girls) am I making a good choice here and is there anything I should watch for or should know?!!
All advice most welcome!

YAY! 
More TVR girls!! Do not be put off by any one who says they are not for girls. I have had my lovely 'Ruby' for almost 2 years, and everyone has been fantastic, and most certainly the great folks on PH.
There are a few things I was told to look out for: 1)If the car you see is shut up, ie: windows, roof, etc, smell the interior when you get in. If it smells nice and dry, it probably doesn't leak. If it smells musty and dank, then it probably does!
2) Get the VIN number and check the car's history with the factory. They are very helpful and will tell you exactly when the car was serviced and at what mileage. This should coincide with the info in the driver's handbook.
3) Make sure you have plenty of spare cash to pay for all the tanks of fuel you will need for days when you have nowhere to go, but want to take the TVR there anyway
4) There are other things to look out for and think of, but I can't think of them now. I'm sure the peeps here will help you out as well!
5) Find a good one and don't look back. The Grin Factor is addictive!
6) Mail me as 'Ruby' may be available soon.
7) I have e-mails from 2 years ago with loads more advice. Let me know if you want them!!

Go and buy one now! Sound choice IMHO, the more ladies driving TVR's the better.
I would suggest that you get one with power steering unless your into pumping iron, could be a little tiring after a few hours at the wheel, again IMO.
Go out and try SOME.
One word of warning, the permanent grin does take a bit of getting used to, in my case "All" of 5 seconds

Got my wife behind the wheel solo of my Griff 500 on Saturday afternoon as she had only been in it once let alone drive it (ok, she was pregnant and couldn't actually fit behind the wheel until 9 weeks ago! )
Came back from a 5 inute run round the lanes with a grin as big as the bonnet scoop - also, the fact she has just got back from 10 days in Spain and was wearing only a pair of shorts and a bikini top meant the car looked better than it ever has done too
Get one - you won't look back!

My wife loves driving ours (non-pas by the way and no problems).
Some of the stories she comes back with too - BMW/Lax Power guys trying it on - none of them ever win
I love it when she comes home describing the fun journey home from work.
Latest was about how the back end squirms from side to side under very heavy acceleration

Are you sure you want a 4.5? As you only managed to reach the heady speeds of 15 mph in second yesterday maybe a 4.0 with stabilisers may be a good place to start.

Test drive lots (don't take him with you until you've had your first look - it's you who has to be happy, not him).
Don't listen to anyone who tells you it's not a girl's car, they're talking crap.
Get it checked over by someone who knows TVRs (NOT the RAC or AA). Maybe talk to James Agger, I haven't heard of him supplying a dud yet - he seems to be able to sniff out good ones.
Be prepared to get your hands dirty, not mandatory, but it makes the whole ownership experience so much more fun.
Why are you going for a 4.5? I'd look at 5.0s as well if I were you.
Lastly, get yourself out to play with the girls!!

Go for it ! Best thing I ever did !! Thing is, they are addictive. Once you get into TVR's, nothing compares.

As everyone else has already told you - Go for it!
I've had my Chimaera for five months and have loved every minute of it. I was like you too and was looking for a 4/4.5 but when it came down to it the one i really liked turned out to be a 5.0 so dont discount any - try them all.

I'm a girl and I drive a Griff 500. I'd agree with everything said so far. I've had mine just over a month and the grin keeps bigger. Definitely try driving as many as you can before making your mind up and insist on a decent test drive (not 10 minutes in a 30mph road), you need to get the feel of the car. It was the best advice I was given as they do all feel different. If you get to drive a 5L and think it's OK then don't even think about anything smaller. Mail me if you have any other questions as I've just gone throught the whole buying process on my own and have an idea what it's like.
