come on then guys your recomendations please
i driven tts boxters slks and every other new rag top available but i like the grunt of a TVR only drove a chim 40 so what do you recomend as it will be a weekend car to enjoy what should i go for
budget £20k is realistic
and the person that mentions subaru should come and look t the one i binned last week

Woah guys! Give him a chance... just cos he's binned a scooby doesn't mean he can't enjoy a TVR - I mean, some of us have even managed to turn a diesel Land Rover on it's roof huhmm.. and I'm relatively sane 
Dave - welcome to PH - you're right, there's not much to match the grunt of a TVR, forget awsome, it's downright fearsome!
As a rough guide, for £20k, presuming you are buying the newest one available and not one of the older wedges - of which there are some belters around for nearer £10k than 20, and they can sound pretty scarey - then you are looking at a Chimaera or Griffith in two seater soft top or a Cerbera in 2+2 hard top.
You will probably be inundated with comments on how much faster/better handling/reliable each is against the other but to be honest, most people will hardly notice the difference in performance - they are all blisteringly fast - it is purely a matter of which one you prefer the looks of.
I presently have a Griff 500 which i love to bits - at the end of August however I will be changing to a V8 Cerbera, purely because I need the 2+2. I feel very lucky that TVR make a 2+2 that looks so damn awsome
and I will have no problem in changing over - shame in sunny weather but what the hell.
If you are of a mind that you want the biggest engines - both Griff and Chimaera come in 5litre V8 and the Cerbera comes in 4.5 litre V8.
Owning a TVR is a life altering experience from which there is no escape!

Too many TVRs just go out at weekends and get driven at 2,000 revs to show off. If you want to do that buy a Porsche
Like my boss who has a Murcielago and all he does is drive around the area at crawling speed!
The occasional blat for 5 seconds but thats all it gets. What a waste of great engineering.
Meanwhile I totally cane mine whenever I can cos it's so damn enjoyable! I don't drive like a dick though and always let it warm up!

I am sure I saw both of your cars last night, the Lambo about 9pm going towards the castle in Windsor, and yours about 30 mins later at speed (Within the limit
) towards old Windsor. But to answer the original question, try a few, buy a good one and enjoy it as often as possible. It is worth getting one!!

Read the bit about him not lasting the weekend. If he crashed something as capable and grippy as a Subaru, then we can presume he was giving it some, in which case he was obviously incapable of controlling the situation. In which case, should I happen to be travelling on the same road as he, at any speed, I'd prefer it if he didn't maniac his way into my airspace, thanks all the same.
just to clear up a point i was driving a legacy turbo estate and some nice person pulled out from the middle lane without looking and as i was in the way i hit the armco
the car doesnt have a straight panel
it just sort of crumpled in a noisy sort of way
and i just know i am going to loose £5k when the insurers are through haggling

So that's made them all look a bit silly then! Well done for putting up with the 'shoot first' brigade...
At £20K it's Griff, Chimp or Cerbie. Principal difference (IMHO) is that you can't get the roof off a Cerbie. Well, only once, at least, and for me the wind-in-the-hair is a major part of it.
Of the Griff or Chimp, at this budget they're pretty much identical under the skin - so the simple advice is get the one you like the look of best! Good luck and enjoy.

Er, well, yes: if they'd HAD a Maestro that would be true. It was a Metro: surely even less likely (barring a 6R4, which it wasn't) to 'do' me...
At least (unlike most other cars driven by lads of that ilk), it was an honest car, unadorned by silly spoilers, 'phat' alloys and all manner of similar 'bling' as I believe is the modern idiom.
Stiil, I suppose our erstwhile comrade Stripy is demonstrating an element of taste in going for one of Blackpool's finest, as opposed to something from closer to Beijing...

For that money, you have a pretty wide choice I think. Others know far more than I about the cars, so my 2 pence worth is just to say think about the running costs too. You might be better spending a little less of the 20K on the car and having some in reserve. I plumped for an S for 2 reasons. Firstly, I always wanted one and secondly at the time if I'd have gone for a Griff and something unexpected happened I'd have a problem. They are all good cars if maintained, but you need to spend a little to maintain them..
