Roof Cleaning - Sh!t-shifting

Pistonfest was so good that we just took off and headed west.

Poor Griff got parked under some trees over-wet-and-windy-Sunday-night and either birds (owls?) or squirrels kindly left some "deposits" all over the roof and back end. The paintwork is responding to Autoglym shampoo and polish....

As you know we've had proper summer weather so on the roof it's been well watered in. I've tried a medium-stiff brush while it was wet, same again dry and yet again wet. Still got the marks

Before I go and get violent, has anybody got any clever tricks or tips?

(I could just chuck the roof out - it won't rain for a month or two will it!)

You need some of that roof canvas restorer to paint on . . . not Autoglym . . .can't remember the name. I will request some pigeons to help me test it this weekend .. .

RENOVO - that's it!

Maybe you should waterproof it afterwards as well! . . .with Fabsil!

I neglected to add that I was fully expecting that phase III would be just this sort of treatment - it hasn't been done for about 18 months and it would certainly benefit from a regular treatment anyway.

If the residue of bird poo is still in the fabric, is it wise to 'paint' over it with Renovo etc? The best thing I've found for getting ingrained dust out of the fabric is a drive in the rain! After a good soaking at 70mph it comes up like new. Well, clean at least.

Yup - it got that Monday (100+ miles)...and Tuesday...and - it has been Womble Week remember?

Mrs Beano says I should subject it to a jet wash Any suggestions as to what I should do to Mrs Beano, you can keep to yourselves!

Jet wash? Take the roof off and keep it well clear of the car!!

Bird poo conatins ammonia when fresh (it's a very lightweight way of excreting nitrogen) but I'm sure after a while in the fabric it has been neutralised.

Carpet spot cleaner might be an idea but be careful as you can get light patches! Maybe best talk to a professional rether than experiment.

Halford's own cloth upholstery spray. Lovely foam. Everything comes off with a cloth and no damage.

If you are unlucky enough to have had a cat sleep on the roof use packaging tape to lift the hairs off then the foam spray.

I had some bird droppings on the bonnet of my chimaera.
I took them off at the first opertunity a few hours after it happened and it left a sort of blistering mark.
The back end was okay so I assume the heat from the engine baked it on the bonnet...
I have tried that colour restoring polish but the mark although almost gone is still there...

any ideas how to get rid??????????

Autoglym Paint Restorer followed by Autoglym High Gloss polish, worked for me a couple of weeks back, although my problem wasn't 'baked on'
