I've got very close to buying a Griffith from a TVR dealer and I'm not somewhat crestfallen that the report came back with an "insurance write off Alert"

I have sent this to the dealer and he swears that it is not a write off, it's just two of the number plates that have once been on the car have insurance markers against them, other car's are mentioned, but one is a TVR...

I'm not finding the report that clear and would really appreciate a second opinion on the car, perhaps from an experienced motor trader

I have the report that I can email if anyone can help....

Most of all, it all appears a bit murky, maybe it's genuine, but I've bought a lot of cars and never seen this before.

My confidence is at a low point, which is a shame, because I like the car.

I guess I should also call HPI tomorrow...

If you post the registration on here, I'm sure someone could check for you.

Alternatively, you can place an advert on Autotrader and go as far as when it asks you to pay and it will tell you if it is a CAT write off. Then just cancel your advert before paying.

Thanks, but I have a report already, I paid HPI £20 for the priviledge, hoping that it would be the most comprehensive one ...

It comes up red, but it could just be plates after or before the plate was transferred etc

A full HPi report will require the Vin number and it is the vin which will tally against a registration plate and will come back as an insurance write off or not.

A Cat C car will have had to have a VOSA identity check.

Any other plate which has been on the car will also feature but HPI should be able to clarify whether there is an issue with THAT car or another car that the plate has been attached to in the past.

HPI will be happy to clarify over the phone!

Happier now in that HPI are going to do an investigation.

The issue seems to be that the loss is registered against a TVR, but it doesn't say which one, so they are going to verify by serial number, contact the insurer etc.

Most likely it's someone moving a plate about from TVR to TVR hopefully it doesn't pertain to this car.

This is probably the case as a lot of TVR owners move plates around their cars over the years. If you are in any doubt walk away, or ask the dealer to provide you with a full HPI check against the VIN number. The £20 cost for him will allow you to buy the car with peace of mind so well worth it for both parties.

All checked out fine, and marker removed from the car by HPI.

This was after an investigation by HPI that involved contacting the insurers and verifying chassis number etc, there was one of it's past TVR plates that showed as a loss, but it was NOT on this car.
