Tvr prices. How much have you bought or sold your TVR for?
Discussion
Tvr prices have been on the up like most classic cars of late, but not to stupid levels like 911s or E30 M3s.
The topic was raised last year as a TOTD too https://www.pistonheads.com/news/tvr-pistonheads/t...
My current one is a Tuscan. Have had one Tuscan or another for 10 years on and off, still entranced from the immense impact of seeing one at the NEC motor show in 1999. Have had others alongside and before Tuscans, starting with a wedge back in 91.
While another Tuscan would be unjustifiable, a Sagaris struck me as a good buy earlier this year. Hear me out! Always wanted one and thought it would be soon that the TVR resurgence caught prices again, i wanted tohave one guilt-free for a year, buying for c£50-60k and selling next year at hopefully breakeven or maybe more.
Well, got my Saggy 3 months ago for £59k, but it was in the spec i wanted (basically, a red one) through asking around some garages- kerridges, hexham etc. They were all helpful, and in the end it was Neil Garner in Kemble who sourced mine- I must be a charming bar steward cos they told me about a customer willing to sell his, and didnt even claim a commission. The price was more realistic than the £65kish of the ones on the market, some of which are still around and crept up to £70k now.
Looks like theyre all going up, which is either good or bad depending on if youre buying or selling, but Im guessing the real sharp rises will be late this year/ early next.
Would be interesting to know others' thoughts, especially if youve bought/sold yours recently or are researching your options. Dealers/ professionals welcome too.

Or will prices fall once a Sag is not the latest and fastest TVR out there?
At the moment a Sag is pretty much the newest TVR you can buy, very soon, that will not be the case. At £70k is it is also getting close to the price of the new car.
Fair point to consider, and if you're right here's hoping I don't take too much of a fall!At the moment a Sag is pretty much the newest TVR you can buy, very soon, that will not be the case. At £70k is it is also getting close to the price of the new car.
However, my impression is that this devaluation happens with successive model years in 'mass market' cars (BMW 5, 7, Merc E class etc). Last years model becomes just an old car.
It seems unlikely that someone in the market for a Sag would be considering it against the new car as an either/or. It's from a recent, but totally different era, with different applications. Also, the new one will not be ready for some time yet.
Also, its particular value is IMO related to being rarer, madder and more developed than its siblings- its rarity and one-off 'outrageousness' in styling , and arguably more refined/ disciplined in handling terms.
I guess that waffling is why i am interested in other peoples' sales or purchases as an actual indicator. Some people may be coy but that attitude is disappearing in the information age. I zoopla'd my neighbour's house sale for example, and discovered he got a lot more than he said, the lying scoundrel!
I love the Saggy but cannot get to grips with the prices, the ones for sale at dealer,s seem to have been for sale for a very long time, is this that the buying public still think they are to expensive, I don't think the speed six power plant helps etc eat, I never had a problem with my 4 speed six cars but just wonder if people with have more faith in the new ford power unit, I would buy a Saggy tomorrow for around £50.000 as this would give me 10 grand left for a powers rebuild, but with prices as they are that is never going to happen, so of to goodwood tomorrow to look at the new TVR........HADE A DEPOSIT ON IT NOW FOR 3 bloody years so hope it's what I am hopeing for.....

Excellent! Someone with skin in the game!Well, you have a real decision to make now. Youve seen the pics of the new one, and you are equally interested in a Sag, for the right price.
Help me with your view on this. Supposing there are 50 others with the same thinking as you. And of those 50, 20 dont like the new one, and decide to go Sagaris. 90k can get you the perfect Sag with change for a spare speedboat. Now, 20 people wanting a Sag entering the market over the next few months. So its possible Sag prices will at keast remain the same, if not go up to comfortably allow a purchase with change, for a smaller speedboat. Fair?
