As the title suggests - if we do see TVR rise from the ashes, what sort of engine should it have?

A Chevy LS would surely be easiest however much I love the Speed Six. Its a modern day RV8 in essence. Its cheap for its power out put, reliable and well tested. Is available off the shelf with lots of differing BHPs. It will also be a lot easier to pass emmisions/type aproval tests, especially in the states, which is a huge market. Leaving TVR able to focus on the other parts of the car.

Why isn't "reworked/updated AJP" on the list?

Whilst I can see the sense in a Chevvy LS, the AJP & Speed 6 just have so much character, they surely have to feature in the equation, even if options. They do make it a TVR biggrin

Dont know how heavy it is, but the twin turbo V8 in the M5/M6 with 550odd HP would do it.

Or the AMG 6.3.

As much as I love the AJP and speed six engine TVR should do what Morgan do which is purchase in a fully warrantied crate engine with gearbox and concentrate on the rest of the car. There are plenty of good options out there.

Something 4 cylinder and turbocharged like a Ford ecoboost in something the size of an Elise/g40.

Then an tweeked reliable speed 6 with that classic howl in something t series sized

Whatever engine gives this new TVR company the best chance of success - so probably the LS.

I don't see any other real contenders than the LS, there reasonably cheap, very tuneable and most of all true to the TVR ethos of putting a overly powerful yank lump up front and letting the fun begin.

I'd love to see them do something cheap.£40k should be the target with no more than 1200kg. For that a crate LS engine is fine.

I have a feeling though that they will be >£100k in which case the engine needs to be a lot more special.

Not sure how a new Tvr is going to compete with so many mass produced 'sports' cars out there. Its a very tough area to actually make money which has to be achieved . Think of all the competition !

With all the development work that has been carried out over the years, there is no doubt in my mind that any new TVR should have a TVR engine. Based of course on the Speed Six, there are 3 options; basic 3.6, mid-range 4.3, top of the the line 4.5 super sport. Now reliable, plenty of power and able to supercharge if you want even more power. Simples!

You've never encountered pretty much any British sports car from the 1960s then?

Yes but the new owners must listen to the Chimp vote as I'm sure chimp owners are all willing to PX said chimps for a new £80k Chevy wink
