Estoril Wheels
Discussion
I sold a set via PH Classifieds last year for £500. They went within a few hours to a dealer wanting to put them on a car they had in stock. Had loads of interest and could have sold them many times over......... should've asked for more.
Also got a set of 16's in the garage - at current appreciation rates they're a better investment than my ISA's
ETA - The Estoril's are not for sale, sorry

Slightly off topic, but what's the benefit of 16" wheels on the front? It seems easy to get suitable tyres for the 15s and the only difficulty is with the rears. Right?
I've come close to switching my Estorils to a 17/16 combination but the delivery time always puts me off and I never get round to it.

There were more issues with getting the 15" tyres the last time I looked, although that was 5 years ago when I went to the 16s all roundI've come close to switching my Estorils to a 17/16 combination but the delivery time always puts me off and I never get round to it.
I found that the front was more 'planted' with the 16s compared to the 15s, less tendency to tram-line and less understeer.
From a visual point of view I think they just filled the arch a bit better.
I suppose I can understand that a 16 inch front will have lower profile sidewalls on the tyres and therefore maybe feel a bit more steady. How about looks wise? Do matching sizes front and rear look better than the inch smaller front to rear combination? As I say, I'm thinking of going 17/16, but would entertain 17/17 if the looks are more balanced.

15" wheels are in a bit of a glut as they become surplus to requirements.
Somebody tell "Chilliman" please

Ref the question about fitting them on the front, my reason was so that I could fit 300mm discs and four pots, which wouldn't fit under the 15's..
I have been thinking about going 17's all round, but not sure yet... course if I do I'll have two spare sets of Estorils...

Surely the car was designed for 15" at the front for better handling/steering and possibly aesthetic reasons - a 16" at the front surely adds unsprung weight & increasing steering/turn-in - not sure they look better as its meant to be lower at the front but i guess this is a subjective point.
I replaced my 15" tyres last year without a problem.
Perhaps the move reflects a trend towards oversized wheels - it does my Audis no favours on 18 & 19" wheels - however its a fine line between taste & originality
