I intend to keep using my Chimaera through the winter and I was wondering this morning about the best way to get rid of salt and other winter grime. I don't have a pressure washer, or even a hose pipe for that matter, so it's going to have to be a sponge and some soapy water, I think. Anything to watch out for?

If you really want to clean the chassis off, then buy yourself a pressure washer. If you don't have the tap available then take it to a local car wash.

Honestly, you will never get a result worth the time from a bucket and sponge, sorry!

Drive through a ford???

But as said no point with a bucket and sponge, pressure washer much better. But guess driving to get it done at a local car wash also defeats the object of removing the salt if the road home is also salty.

Another alternative would be a pump garden sprayer, can always mix something into the water, would be able to get into the areas that are hard to get to .

Thought the problem was lack of water not electricity?

Some pressure washers will draw water from a bucket or container, no "feed" required scratchchin

"Features 17ltr water tank which can be detached from base for easy re-filling." Sounds useful. Could do with one of those for my bike too. Might have to add that to the Christmas list...

Get a garden hose, open the tap full, close down the nozzle and get it close to the outriggers…

If only I had a tap for the garden hose.

IIRC you can get adaptors that fit onto normal household taps, so I did think about feeding it through the kitchen window. That idea is fraught with peril, though, given the car will be 50 ft away with the neighbours' drive in between...

That 12v pressure washer with the water tank is looking very tempting all of a sudden.

Is this not a case of if you drive your TVR during the winter coat it in waxoyl or similar and clean it all off in the spring? Steam cleaner maybe...

Spraying water all over your chassis and putting in the garage isn't going to help much although is probably better than leaving the road salt on!

Just my thoughts!

Also true, but I'm planning to take the car for a work trip tomorrow and the initial idea was to look for a quick fix.

Get a five litre can of panel wipe and some rags. Put the panel wipe in an atomiser and wipe off. Very little will survive on the surface after that and it evaporates off... Fast

Ah, I see - then the wipes idea is a good shout maybe after a wash?

Spray the chassis in ACF50 leave it till spring then wash it off.
If you spray water but then don't dry it off before say putting the car away in a garage your going to do more damage than good.
