Brighton Speed Trials TVRs
Discussion
Hi all TVR owners/ enthusiasts,
It's a while since I've posted due to various other commitments, something I hope to change soon, but I couldn't let this one slide without making sure everyone 'TVR' is aware.
As some of you know, the Brighton Speed Trials is not only an absolutely amazing event, but it has also been a huge TVR event too over the years. There are usually atleast three TVR entrants, all giant slaying and representing the marque fantastically. Over the years we've seen everything from savage 700bhp Tuscan Racers to beautifully prepared vixens, competing, making people smile and doing what TVR does best!
Last year, the Speed trials were cancelled due to the unfortunate death of an entrant on a three wheeler the year before. Whilst it does highlight opportunities for safety improvements beyond the finish line, it should not end what is a unique event and celebration of speed. Unfortunately, that is just what looks to be happening. Instead of working to improve the event, the local council are trying to stop it altogether.
We cannot let this happen, please, take a few minutes of your day to fill in this petition;

Do not let it disappear forever. As long as this madness can be resolved, we will be there in our TVR T350c, as we always were with our Cerbera, competing and representing the marque. We will doubtlessly be joined by a few other TVR entrants and if you haven't been to one yet, it's well worth the trip - you won't regret it!

As TVR fans, it is our duty to get this petition signed, and by as many people as possible. Please spread the word!

Competed myself quite a few times! Great event, it was only a matter of time until the Green council killjoys got their way! The tragic accident gave them all the ammo they needed!
I'm sure the competitor who was killed wouldn't wish their death to be the reason for the event ending. It'd be more appropriate to hold a minutes engine revving in his memory before the event rather than ban it. Good job they didn't take the same attitude at Goodwood after the unfortunate accident at the end of the hillclimb.

Absolutely.We very sadly lost a fellow friend and racer at York Raceway a few years ago. Kasey was only 23 at the time but was already a seasoned character at the track that was loved and respected by everyone that knew him. Many people there including his parents witnessed the accident. It was a terrible day but the decision was unanimous to continue the racing the day after. Every August event Paul and Tanya put on a huge BBQ for everyone and all racers take to the track and hold a minutes of drag racing engine revving that we call the Kasey Cacklefest.
Safety improvements have been made and racing continues as it should. I know for certain Kasey would not have had it any other way.
Lets hope Brighton stays on. I have been wanting to attend for a few years now.
As at 1715 on Christmas Day, the total of signatories is 5380 (including me). Whilst good, comparing well with 879 for the next-highest score, it could be improved by someone who knows how posting a top-level topic that headlines the threat - eg "Brighton Speed Trials under threat. URGENT!"
Just a suggestion.
Also, all members of motor clubs, one-make clubs or just petrolheads generally, circulate via their chairmen, email, club Fora, Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin or whatever. This should really go global. With 100,000-plus signatures, it might attract attention of National media (though I doubt BBC will touch it, given their bias). Anyone with such contacts might try a little gentle stimulation.
Motor sport is under attack from many directions, often masquerading as "green", which have learned the art of media rabble-rousing. We need to become just as good at fighting back.
End of rant! Merry Christmas. May 2014 be the year of the dedicated Pistonheads/petrolheads' fight-back!
