Blimey, those diesels !

Had to go out with my brother yesterday in his new Mercedes C350 oil burner and what a car, (power wise).
He floored it from standstill and then from speed and the acceleration and pull were eye opening to say the least.
You boys in 4.0 chim/griffs would be embarrassed.
What is it with these saloon car manufacturers, don't they realise us "sports" car drivers get embarrassed easily.
When you think a 450 chim in 99 was about £36K, that's the same price as this Merc with all the bells and whistles.
It seems that these cars are a bit of a bargain, power/comfort/economy wise, (he's averaged over 40 mpg since buying it!).

I'm seriously tempted by the new shape A8 4.2 TDi V8. A simple remap and it's potential sub 5 seconds 0-60, 380 BHP and 650 ft/lbs. I've been really pleased with my old shape petrol 4.2 and this would be a significant step up in power and performance. I find it's the perfect car to complement the TVR's rawness and it would seem I'm not alone as there are quite a few A8/TVR drivers.

Really struggling to believe that.
What are the respective 1/4 mile times?
Read his thread it says 13.35secs I run 13 in my cerb when it was box standard, the cerb should do mid 12's with more practice better surface than crail and a better driver :he he:What are the respective 1/4 mile times?

Not much in it but tvrs are getting on now technology advances are showing them up now just a fact of life,
Don't forget that modern cars are also getting a lot heavier, too, and perhaps rely on too many (V. expensive when they go wrong) electronic gadgets to both keep them on the road and help put the power down.
Give me a simple front engine/rear wheel drive and a light chassis any time - at least when they go wrong, you're usually paying for the fun bits, not some over-priced piece of electronic gadgetry that puts a barrier between you and fun anyway...
Anyway, I get the most enjoyment on the twisties, never been into drag racing other cars...
