European winter road trip.
Discussion
Am I insane? I need to go to Italy week after next. My Tuscan 2 has just been upgraded to Power 4.3 spec, freshly run in and I really like the idea of taking her with me. Probably leaving on Saturday next, then a working week near San Remo, then home to Kent. Any recommendations, or advice from people doing similar trips past present or future (planned)?

Sounds like it could be fun.
I think I am correct in saying that in some countries it is compulsory to have winter tyres fitted, Grrmany and Austria spring to mind, not sure about elsewhere. Unless things have changed they are not compulsory in France.
Enjoy the trip,
Mick
winter tyres are on, just looking at weather forecast. Was out this morning in Kent dressed as an Eskimo roof off, trying out my endurance for cold... Flew back from Alpe d'Huez yesterday.
Alps were bathed in sunshine...but Chamberey airport was fogged in until midday.
I'd say if you head down via Lyon/Avignon you'll get a clear run - then head East along the coast?
Enjoy, Nick
Plan is to get down to Reims on Saturday, if the weather is good I will continue, going cross country from Troyes to Dijon, via Chatillon-sur-SeineAlps were bathed in sunshine...but Chamberey airport was fogged in until midday.

if not maybe stay overnight. I live near the Tunnel so very easy, if the weather is kind. The temptation then is go via Lyon and Rhone valley or Grenoble and some of the Route Napoleon. Anyone been down that way lately/tried it in winter?

I was going to suggest this route too just to avoid potential problems.Enjoy, Nick
My Tuscan was scary as hell on a snowy German autobahn a couple of winters ago. Mind you I had summer tyres on

D996

D996 was a great idea. Great road, quite a lot of traffic, but the Tuscan is a great overtaking tool, now it has grown to 4.3... Speaking of tools; was tailgated by a black Audi S3 while waiting for overtaking opportunity, looks like French knobs drive them too. Anyway, wasn't with me for long...

Glad you enjoyed it! Did that road on the way back from the Alps with 18 TVRs. It was very quiet with little traffic on a Sunday afternoon. Well, that was until we turned up
Even the cyclists seemed to enjoy the Tuscan - some saying thank you for not overtaking hastily and squeezing them - never saw that in England!
Only sorry I couldn't get the roof off and hear it all properly :-p
