Help with Spanish and French Chateau Tour 2014
Discussion
For those of you who had seen my recent video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A-d74hGN4cY I am in search of recommendations from any of you who have taken the ferry to Santander and driven back up the west coast of France.
This is a private group holiday and it is my turn amongst the four couples to organise the trip. What I am after, is simply any recommendations of places to visit around San Sebastian, Bordeaux and La Rochelle. Basically looking for tours / private visits of vineyards, go karting, clay shooting, car museum anything that would keep 40's to 50 year olds amused when NOT driving!! Some of you may be aware, that our trip last year encountered parking in Annecy where one Sagaris and one Tuscan had the windows smashed by mindless thugs (who need their hands chopped off) and for that reason we are looking at places where parking is private or secure. Can anyone give me personal recommendations of such places to visit. If you do have any cracking places of interest or know somebody that can help us, please can you PM / email me, as the locations will be kept secret to the other Chateau Runners right up until the holiday. Thanking you for your support and help. Kind regards Paul

Hi Paul, my wife and I drove round France and northern Spain last August. However, we started in St Malo and drove down the coast and stayed near Audierne and Pont Du Raz. From there we went East right across France and headed for Beaune, which I realise is not the way you are going. We did ultimately end up at Santander after driving via Switzerland (Luzern) and then back into France down to the South-east, Provence and then the Sout-west.
I would recommend Audierne as it is a lovely fishing town with some decent restaurants and bars, and outside the town there are plenty of scenic drives toward Pont Du Raz. If you are heading back up toward St Malo then definitely visit there and drive toward it via Le Val Andre. To be honest you can't really go wrong in Brittany. It is a while since I have driven up the entire Western side of France so I cannot make any suggestions there but when you are in the South-West Dax is fine for a lunch time stop over but the best area is around Soustons, where the beaches are fantastic. Also if you like gourmet food then the best restaurant that I have eaten at is in a small town called Magescq, called Relais De La Poste.
I hope this helps. I wish I was coming! My wife and I had the best holiday ever.
Cheers,
Stuart.

PM me for ideas about hotels and things to do in San Sebastian
Top recommendation for Gerjo - his resorts are very nice!
+1. Spent a couple of days in Gerjo's company last year when he joined us on part of our week long tour in France. Certainly he will be able to help and although we didn't stay at one of his resorts I can tell you that he wont let you down!Top recommendation for Gerjo - his resorts are very nice!
