Hi all

I am about to reinsure my tiv. When I collected it from the garage after its service & mot yesterday I noticed that the values seem to have risen.

So what should I insure my car at? I have owned it from new.

Chim 500
2002
78000 miles

Any help/advice appreciated.

Well - so much is condition dependent.
You cannot put a serious valuation on a TVR especially a chim from just it's model, year and mileage.

If (and a big if) it's in good nick:

£12,000, although a dealer may well have it on for more like £13,000+.

I justify that based on the fact it's a later model and a 500.You've had it since new which is a big plus. The mileage is a little high - I know it means so little in terms of how good the car actually is but it does effect the market value.

That said if the interior is worn, the outriggers shot and the paintwork crap it could be as low as £5,000-£6,000

Thanks for that Simon.

I keep the car in very good order, the chassis has been sealed and it had a re spray in 2010 as the paint looked tired.

At the moment it is insured at £14,000 which is probably about right.

By the way yes the mileage is high BUT Mrs BC and I have enjoyed every one of them. driving

£14k sounds about right then Barry.
You'd certainly find it hard to find a decent one from a dealer for much less.

I have seen some chims adevertised for near £20k but they have always been something pretty special.

Didn't think the TVRCC did valuations anymore.

My insurance company gave my 100k miles 500 a value of £14k prior to it having a full engine rebuild.

Forget what you could get for yours, that is almost irrelevant, ask what it would cost you to replace it if it all goes wrong one day.
If you bought it from a dealer (sounds like you did, as did I), then only look at dealer prices for a comparison.

Forget almost anything except cosmetic condition on price comparison.
Mechanical condition and investment will be irrelevant until you are fighting for your car's life with the insurance company.

Let's hope you never have to do the latter smile

I know mate, shameful isn't it. My main problem these last 3 years is all my time is taken up keeping the business afloat which is proving difficult at the moment, and I only took it out once last year to Chatsworth, then took the heads off when I got back and it's been in [heated] garage since. Still, getting a move on now with the engine upgrades so gotta get out in it this year driving
Apologies OP.
