Hi chaps,

Roller Shutter Insulated Garage Door!

Anyone experience of these? Looking to get one to secure the TIV better but currently they look close to £1,100 fitted :/

Thanks,

Steve

Yes that's about what I paid a few years back.

However I am glad I did, no more draughts and leaves blowing under the door and more room above the car when I am using the lift to raise the car

I fitted a pair from these people, very pleased with them. I think they do an installation service for about £200. My doors are 2.5m clear opening and came in at about £800 each, eighteen months ago.

I got advised to fit a powered sectional up and over door, as they are security rated. Had mine for 12mths on my new garage, installed it myself. Its great !!!

They are not all insulated the same.

Have a look at the u Values. Some are exceptionally good, others not so.

Have you compared and read the inside surface temperatures with an infra red laser thermometer, on a certain day, same place, same time in 4 replicates on a Horman up and over compared to a roller? Sorry, to much to ask. I'm being over pedantic like most of us on PH at 9.30. Mine reads 10.6C inside and 8.6C outside. 2.0C of insulation.
I'm having some problems with my Horman remote. TVR, META remote works better, hooray!biggrinbiggrin

i fitted a sectional one which isn't a roller as i didn't have ceiling room, but the door goes up on tracks along the ceiling

easy DIY
door cost about 800 IIRC

i fitted top frosted lights which add a huge amount of light in the garage

insulation is a great advantage, (i didn't opt for the thickest door) but the biggest advantage is that it seals so well all round that even in the recent somewhat windy weather, there were nil draughts.

definitely worth the additional cost over a standard setup and id fit same again tomorrow!

No ... Should I ?. but my brother in law sells and manufactures roller shutter doors and admits the sectional one have a better thermal rating. Why cos it's thicker

That said not everyone's garage suits sectional doors

I fitted an insulated roller shutter door from auto roll last weekend. It's 16ft wide and 7ft high. Did it myself with assistance from the kids. It's far superior to the last roller shutter door and was a bargain at 1100 quid including the extras. Can't recommend them enough. Followed a YouTube clip for the instructions but the do offer fitting if preferred. I ordered it over the internet on the Sunday and it arrived on the Thursday.

Thickness of insulation? That's the key. Current best quote for me is £400 smile single door etc

Copied from auto roll website.

"All Autotherm doors are constructed from interlocking 77mm x 18mm thick (including radius), twin walled aluminium slats and filled with CFC-free insulating foam, which combines strength whilst helping increase energy effi ciency with a typical U value of 5.2 w/m2 K. The doors can easily span an opening up to 5400mm wide and come complete with a heavy duty weather seal to the bottom section."

Without the radius I suggest the slat is more like 13mm on measuring mine. They will send you a sample

Steve, welcome anytime to do a blast down in to see my 16ft wide Horman. Your T350 would look great on the driveway. I'm just off the A14 at Histon before Cambridge.
