Griff Exhaust Options
Discussion
Posting in General as Chim owners might be able to offer opinions as well.
Sacrilege I know, but to pass the Griff's MOT a few weeks, we had to swap out Clive's y piece for the oem catted y. From memory I knew I personally preferred the quality of sound with the catted y piece in, so that's how we've left her. I've had the pre-cats removed from the beginning, and the silencer is oem as well
With Clive's work of art installed she sounded louder and more "angry" (dealer and I agreed on that word!
). Some character had been lost though. With the oem y piece re-installed the sound is much more mellifluous, and more importantly, the pops and burbles on the over-run have returned which sounds more interesting inside (and outside) than the continual snarl of before. I did get the occasional bang with Clive's but they were few and far between! Yes, I miss those.
BUT - I miss the increased volume, but would love to keep the characterful soundtrack . . . . so, how about tinkering with the silencer, and getting it sleeved, or part-sleeved?
Any thoughts or experience of this tweakery would be welcomed. I'm about to ring my dealer to see what options of silencers they might have in to play around with on my car . . .

Although I used the term sleeved, I'm not sure (technically) what that means!!?
Anyone care to explain the sleeved options?

if you remove the end of the silencer you will see there are a couple of inner pipes with holes in em and a bunch of wadding, replace these pipes with solid ones, replace the wadding and weld the end on againAnyone care to explain the sleeved options?

I am in Reading, not too far from you.
Come and have a listen if you like, mine is fully sleeved with main CAT and pre CATs still in.
I am really tempted by a Y Piece but love the pops and bangs

If you decide to keep the OEM CAT I might be interested in your Y Piece?
Hi starmist, I was going to suggest offering it to you because of the above quote!
Haven't thought of a price yet, but will let you know maybe during the week.
