Howdee playmates. I want to simply clean the car's interior and remove marks to the leather and vinyl trim. Can anyone suggest:
- what solvents I can safely use to clean and remove marks from leather
- ditto vinyl
- old glue from vinyl and leather

Brake fluid cleaner ... but make sure you wash it off afterwards with leather cleaner or Fairy liquid thoroughly.

Brake fluid cleaner. Is there such a thing? Can you clean brake fluid? Have you been on the hoffmeister?

Anyway.. On the vinyl you can use all purpose cleaner in an atomiser from the super market. As for the leather the gliptone range is cheap and effective.

I use this when I have stubborn marks test it on an area that's not seen first but worked well then clean with leather cleaner to remove the residue

I used to use gun wash on the vinyl parts of all the tvrs, as long as it doesn't run then it cleans to an saw new standard and doesn't damage it.
As for the cow covered bits, a stiff nail brush and plenty of clean cloths and an interior cleaner in a spray bottle will have it looking like new.

I have just done a similar thing, mostly removing excess glue. To break the glue down I used Autoglym intensive tar remover. Just dab some on a microfibre cloth and gently rub on the glue. The glue will loosen and will be lifted by the cloth.

Test first somewhere out of sight to ensure it doesn't remove the colour. Mine was fine.

For general grime I used the Autoglym leather cleaner and interior shampoo.

Gun wash tends to be cellulose thinners or a mixture of. Be very careful.

Try the all purpose cleaner first. I've put gun wash in plastic cups and given enough time it will melt the cup.

As above it's a type of thinners, but used correctly it works brilliantly, I've got photos somewhere from a chimaera I used it on, the difference is amazing.
All that you have to do is not let it run or sit for too long on the material, use a nail brush or cloth to apply it, it really does work well I'm hoping to have a day off early next week and I need to clean mine, I'll take a few pictures then.

I'd also recommend "Magic Eraser".

I got mine for about 5 quid from an Asda, IIRC. On leather, it leaves the surface looking a bit dry, so I usually then treat the leather with a 'food' of some description.

I have seen Autosmart G-101 to good effect too. Use with a nail brush and the surface cleans up well.

Just a follow up about the use of gun wash on the vinyl parts of the interior, you can see below the difference it makes. I did go over the same area before with interior cleaner and nail brush, then the same process with gun wash.
You do have to apply it in a certain way but if anybody wants a few tips, I'm happy to share :-)
