Tvr purchased! Le Mans, French alps trip beckons ...
Discussion
Well as title suggests I have recently bought a Tuscan 2 S
Now me and the wifey are heading off to Le Mans and south of France next week. Needless to say I'm very excited and perhaps a little apprehensive .
I picked the car up 2 weeks ago and and it's had a thorough going over and a bit of work done on it by tony at HHC. So far I've managed to do 600 miles in it, only way check everything's ok, right?
Anyway, am after any advice any of you guys can give me or tips on my trip.
I have sorted breakdown cover before anyone suggests that...
How much oil should I take? Any specific tools I should pack? Just anything really, as not been on such a big eventful trip and being such a tvr newbie there probably loads of stuff I could do with knowing.
Thanks
J

Sounds like a perfect way to get used to the car! I'm not going this year so very jealous.
Whilst it'll sound like a hassle, packing a few little bits can make a difference, I'd look at:
- Decent socket set/ spanners/ screwdrivers and general tools
- cable ties, both metal and plastic
- gaffa tape
- spare bolts/washers and nuts.
With The few times that something minor has gone wrong and I've wanted to sort it quickly, it's having the tools but no actual spare parts that is most annoying.
The exhaust hanger fell off a couple of weeks ago. A couple of metal cable ties would probably have sufficed as a temporary fix but I didn't have any, so the day ended early.
That said.. Don't worry too much, enjoy the drive, and the racing!!

How good is the tyre repair kit? Is there a better system I could get?
Sounds a great trip enjoy
I smile at threads like this as some people come on saying you must take half a boot full of the tvr parts store room.
I totally agree with above but would only add some bungee elastic and assorted fuses. I have one of the Argos special tool box in a case which I have added a few spanners to but that has covered all issues so far.
As for puncture repair I have one of these and a mini compressor
http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/CAR-TYRE-PUNCTURE-REPAIR-K...
I do also have a can of tyre weld but only if I really need to use it, last resort.
Also with the AJP8 it is said they can possibly use 1 litre of oil per 1000 miles so I carry a litre but only when the car goes overseas. This may be different with the speed 6 I don't know.
In the Cerbera there is a small cubby hole at the bottom right of the boot. If the spares don't fit in there I don't take it. The only things out side of that is the tool box, the mini compressors and when away the oil.
Happy days.

I would suggest a throttle cable, as they sometimes snap and are very difficult to get hold of when travelling. And sealed envelopes with "Gendarmerie" written on it and exactly € 90,- in it, as it ál-ways is that exact amount you have to pay them.
(Please make a pic (and post it) from the face of the Gendarme as you hand it over and he first reads "Gendarmerie" and then, after you sumone him to open it, finds it contains the exact amount..... Priceless. I am speaking out of experience. For best effect give him one out of a pile of 10 envelopes)

Thanks for all the responses.
Just ordered some castrol oil from eBay, mega cheap !
Tony from HHC is going to supply me a tourer kit so it will include a few bits and pieces such as fuses and throttle cable so that's a big help on his behalf.
Puncture repair kit looks interesting, has anybody had experience with repairing a puncture before?.

2 links worth looking at...

The auto toll device can save you quite a bit of time on a long journey like yours to southern France and it is a lot more convenient.
