Having talked to a few chim owners at BTAP and a few cerby owners (boss cerbera included, he knows his cerbys)I have since looked at a 500 chim a 450 chim and still have the former yellow peil in mind.
The 450 and 500 are both immaculate nothing to choose betwwen them until I look in the back of evo mag and discover This:
Tvr chimaera 450 0-60 5.2 160mph and 22.1mpg
Tvr chimaera 500 0-60 4.6 167mph and 26.4mpg
I know its a minor point and both figures are probably for granny driving but is it true that the 5 litre is better on fuel than the 4.5 and if so why?.

500 number HAS to be a misprint. With my 500, I will get 22 with a combination of motorway / steady A-road cruising. Had 24mpg once, driving like a granny.

Reckon on 20mpg ave for a 500.

Over a year I averaged about 17 in my 5.0 best 25mpg all motorway driving worst about 14, would use it everyday if I could get 26mpg (used to average approx 19mpg in the 4.0)

On the Cerb front, 13mpg around town (11 out of the last tank) & 27mpg @ 110mph on motorways (abroad of course)

I'm astonished you bother measuring it. I just put more in as it needs it. Why worry about how much fuel a TVR uses????

Hi Dougie appears top be in the sinbin at the moment but he says, he is not bothered about the fuel consumption unless there is nothing else to choose between the cars and he likes them all equally, if you see what he means.

I don't really look at the consumption of my 500 ...... so long as it goes well I am happy ! When I did a rough check it gave about 18mpg on a tank - but as I say, I couldn't really care less ....... I think 26mpg must indeed be a misprint !

TVRs are each so different you can't make that comparison.

Besides, if you have a TVR, why on earth are you worried about fuel economy?

Saying your not bothered about how much they do to a gallon is o.k. for people with bottomless pockets.

I dont completely agree with this "if you need to ask, you can't afford one" comment that gets banded about either.

The people who say they're not bothered about the mpg aren't being honest with themselves, it's like saying "petrol is £10 a litre, who cares ?"

If your in a Tiv, in general, your in it for a reason, it's the best car that falls in to your price category.

The "money is no object merchants" out there aren't driving TVR's.

Sorry if that offends.

I completely agree with this. There has been many such comments about this, and it does really annoy me. When I bough the S3 I never looked into mpg, when switching to the Griff, there was a lot of consideration as to whether I could afford the fuel. Also mpg is a good indicator of how well the car is going. On a good 70-80mph run my Griff returns around 28-31mpg. When looking at other cars some owners were getting 22 on a run. Showed that my car was running very well.

Anyhow raf, from what I hear it's around 20-22 on the bigger engined cars, 24 on the 4.0. My Griff actually returns better Mpg on the motorway than the S3. Higher gearing though.

better mpg all the way from 2000rpm no doubt

Its funny isn't it that you get the 'My cars more powerful than yours and puts out 1300bhp', and then you get the fuel consumption macho whereby your car is so much better if you get less mpg??!!!
