Hi, I'm just wondering what people's thoughts are on having some of my front end chips attended to with a smart repair?
I'm not looking for a concourse car, so thought a smart repair might be the thing to do. I have been warned that our fibre glass bodies require particular caution.

I'd really appreciate advice.

Regards

Adrian

Smart repair is best suited where the paint skin is not broken, and you are removing dents. Any chips in glassfibre will require filling in and then paint applied, so you end up having to spray it whatever- its just how much you are trying to cover, and how you would blend the paint- metallic is pretty difficult as the metallic content tends to lay in a different direction than the original so you get a shift in its reflective quality, so it takes a lot of skill to blend it in, specifically if you dont have a panel line to mask the change. Plain paint is easier , but if the paintwork has faded at all since it was originally applied it can be difficult to match without being obvious. If its a smooth nose cone, you would be better off having the whole area sprayed back to a panel line and be done with it.

Don't do it, smart repairs are crap 99% of the time.
I don't even get them carried out in the stock at work as after a year or so they go bloomy.
Do it properly if you're going to do it.

Chipex was my first thought, as I got an old kit that came with the car but which was out of date. I guess judging by everyone's response to a smart repair, it's either give the Chipex a go or pay the money for a front bonnet and bumper paint.
