Sod's law! I'm iff to do the drive of my life in Scotland, starting Thursday, and I've discovered that a front wheel, if not both have a nasty buckle in them. Balancing didn't work, there wheel shakes violently at 83mph, so I now need a set of fronts. Does anyone have a set in their garage that they will sell me? I live in Northampton and will be travelling up the M6, through Glasgow and the Carmarthen mountains. If you have a pair of fronts if be eternally greatful.

Thanks,

Martin

Martin, Hi,

2 things spring to mind.

Firstly; try one of the wheel re-furbishers (Wheel Specialist franchise) to see if they can heat/fettle the rim to get the buckle out....They can't do magic though!

Secondly; divert via Powers or Str8Six to see if they could sell/loan you a pair of fronts.

Just a thought! Hope you get it sorted.
Nick

They are 17 inch wheels, but the rear tyres are larger, to give you the standard Chimaera nose-down stance. Happy to meet up somewhere to hand over.

PS, I don't expect you to buy them - just borrow them if it will get you out of a hole.

PPS - just looked at your profile - are you taking the Chimaera or the Tuscan?

When the wheels were balanced did they say they were buckled? Were they able to balance the wheels off the car? That would suggest that the problem is not the wheel.

It might be worth checking the hubs are are okay. Check that there's nothing like rust or a foreign object sitting between the wheel and the hub.

... more probably a distortion of the relatively unsupported inner rim (pothole or road cushion damage)... so the wheel and hence tyre is no longer round; you can't balance that out, it's an egg!

Hi Martin,
Try one of the Wicked Wheels franchises, there's probably one close to you.

I was in a similar predicament when I suffered a buckled alloy on an Essex pothole the day before a Eurotour and they managed to repair it to a very high standard. Dropped it off at 9am, it was ready by noon. Brilliant job!

Hey guys, thanks for all the replies and offers. I'm sorry, didn't specify that it was for the Tuscan. I sadly don't own the chin anymore. I'm not that lucky! The wheel rim is deformed and could be clearly seen on the wheel balancing machine. It balanced fine, but as you said, an egg is an egg.

I'll see if there is a wheel refurb place in MK as they have been painted and are generally nice wheels. If not then I'll take up one of your very kind offers. Thanks everyone, you're all legends.

Good news, awesome wheels in MK can fit my wheels in tomorrow morning!!! Phew, what a relief! Thanks again for the offers of loans and other offered help. I'll let you know what the service at Supreme wheels is like. I've used them before and they were very good. It's going to be £40 a wheel.

Remember the rules of the road up there. Passing places on the north west stretch are not just to allow cars coming the other way to pass you. They should also be used to pull in when a Chimaera is going faster.....smokin

Lol. Yeah right ;p With my wheels fixed and my 4.3 singing away up front you'll need to catch me first before worrying about passing me;)

Now I'm getting really excited! Found this video of Evo driving an AM in the Carmarthen mountains. This is before I get to the NC500! Wow! I feel like a kid at Christmas!

That sounds like a challenge? shoot Keep an eye on your rear view mirror. There are a lot of F.I. Chims out there now hehe

Only back in June spoke to a Tuscan driver (in a passing place) on his way round and ahead of him a Cerb. Great roads - enjoy!
