I managed to get a temporary ban at the Norchschleife last week for being to noisy. Can anyone beat 135db?

So many variables exist, how was the measurement made?

Quite. How warm was the engine, was the car on grass or concrete, how far was the db monitor from the pipe.

...and also... why is this a badge of honour. I have spent loads of money making my cars quieter!

It was measured going around the ring.

There are sensors dotted around the track so can't say where about it was picked up.

That is impressive...although your ears must have been bleeding by the time you drove there?.
I got an asbo from them at 118db once, and they would'nt let me on with my track day cans either frown

These high values are not a result of general exhaust noise, they are peak-lock results that have encountered a loud pop or bang during the test. If those results were constant then they would have caused unrecoverable damaged the ears of everyone within 10's of meters of the source.

Absolutely correct.

I once race a 500cc grass bike on methanol fuel, before silencing was properly inforced, around 115 db,
Just stand behind that bike at any revs and your ears would instantly feel pain, very very bad and totally insane as I'm semi deaf now!
135 has to be a pop or bang, constant 135 would knock you unconscious just about and would damage people's ears just by driving past IMHO smile

The track marshal that gave me the ban said that the limit was 130db.

So it's not just exhaust noise then... maybe you just have very noisy tyres.

Not quite 135 but my T350 won the noise comp at Neil Garners open day a couple of years ago, static test with the mikes a couple of metres behind the car. Showed the Lambos who was boss as they just sat there holding their cars on the rev limiters. It's a weekend toy for me and I like the noise - if it were a daily it'd be a lot quieter.
As already mentioned, the main result is spiked by the over run, a true constant 131 would be impossible to live with, that said it is a LOT quieter in the cabin than it is behind the pipes.
