Chimaera/Griffith Y Piece required
Discussion
Hi Peter,
Wrapped to post or wrapped against heat :-)
And I'd have the 2 lambda holes in the manifolds, how easy would it be to block up the one in your Y Piece?
And if you like you can PM me a price & cost of Shipping.
I'd ask a mate who lives in Andover to bring it up at Xmas... but he drives a VX220 & I'm not sure he could transport a Sandwich to me now :-) (but I will ask in case he takes his other half's Mini)
Cheers

I'm not an expert on Y pieces but the rattling from the one off your own car is presumably because the cat is breaking up. If you went the whole hog and removed the remains of the cat that would put you in the same position as with the replacement one but with the correct lambda so if that is easy to do maybe that might be a simpler way ahead?? (Maybe I'm missing something and the cat isn't easy to get out? No doubt an expert will be along to advise).

It could be the pre cats rattling. They have been known to come loose.
Removal of main cat normally requires cutting open the pipe around the cat area, remove cat then weld it back up again.
Wrapping the Y or even just the cat area afterwards helps to deaden the sound.
Less heat inside engine bay is a bonus.
The sound isn't to everyone's liking, it's loud.
Less low down torque ( marginal) but def more HP at the top end if your engines running a good cam.
IMHO

Hi All,
The Pre-Cats look solid & in place.
It's the Y Piece & yes I assume the Main cat has broken up, hence the requirement for one that isn't going to cause an issue.
Marcus, I'm going to leave the Pre Cats in & see if it'll be ok with just those & no main cat. Depends on how nice an MOTer I can find :-)
Cheers
