100w Main Beam Bulbs
Discussion
Hi guys,
I was debating upgrading the H7 Main Beam (bottom lamp) on my Tuscan from the standard 55w up to a 100w.
I don't often use the main beam for any great length of time, switching to dipped for oncoming traffic. That being the case, I'd guess any extra heat generated wouldn't be an issue.
Have any of you tried this?

Given the grades of cable used by TVR, if using a 100w bulb you are likely to get as much light out of the wire as you do the bulb!
The heat given off from a 100w bulb and the current draw through questionable cable spec is not insignificant and will melt the plasic type connectors.
Upgrading the wire to a suitable grade to handle the power and the connector for a ceramic type instead of plastic still leaves the reflector/housing which may not be able to withstand the heat and also fail/melt/peel the silvering etc.
as previously posted I'd look at upgraded bulbs/LED technology instead.

Have a read of the numerous Headlamp threads from the last week and fit some H7 LED bulbs. More output, less heat, less load/draw on the wiring. No harder than swapping the bulb over. You can fit them to the 'dipped' lights too - assuming you're happy with them.
Alternatively, fitt Osram Nightbreakers to the dipped and LED to the 'driving'.

I've just changed the bulbs in my Jeep.......using the same wattage the OSMRA nightbreakers made a massive difference, shame there was too much modification involved to do all the bulbs, so ended fitting Sylvania Silverstar ZXE bulbs which I had shipped in from the USA as direct swap.
Bulb technology has come on so much since our cars were built, you would be surprised what changing to modern high performance bulb of similar wattage achieves.
