Evening all

I had posted this in the Tuscan pages but guess it will be the same for all midterms. Question is, Can anyone tell me which is the positive cable going into the rear speakers? I have one with a black strip and one without. I assume it's the striped cable.

Cheers

Normal convention (not something TVR are known for) is that the wire with the stripe is negative.

It doesn't matter as long as you connect both speakers in the same way, audio is a sinusoidal wave, i.e speaker cones vibrate backwards and forwards.

I don't know enough about this subject but if it doesn't matter then why are cables specifically marked and the terminals on the speakers marked + & -? It's also common for the terminals to be different sizes for identification.
There are also plenty of examples on the internet describing how to test you speakers to find the positive/negative.

As mentioned before the negative has the black line and is the small terminal on the speaker. The larger terminal is generally the positive unless marked otherwise

A purist would say that having one speaker wired the wrong way round would partly cancel out the sound with one cone moving forward as the other moves backward. It truth it makes little difference. Yes it is correct to have the cones operating together and that is why the polarity is marked but I very much doubt anyone could tell the difference especially inside a noisy car

I should add:

Wire a speaker to the cables and turn the head unit on. The initial click should be a forward motion of the cone. If the cone moves backward just swap the polarity

If two speakers share the same enclosure space and each speaker is wired the opposite way round you won't get any bass. Out of phase it's called. If each speaker has its own enclosure space to thump in it will sound better with regards to bass if wired out of phase but each speaker used in the same system should all be wired the same with regards to negative and positive terminals. Basically If you are thumping in a box then as my picture above, if you are inverting the speakers, usually subwoofers then wire the other way round.
If you are using 4 speakers, two up front and two rear, a speaker out of phase will be trying to cancel any bass sound produced by the other speakers so it's important to make sure all are wired correctly

Thanks guys, re read my post and had meant to say stripe was negative.

Anyway, all wired up and although not amplified the infinity 2 way Kappa speakers are as expected...... absolutley brilliant. I've never swayed from infinity speakers over the years, from subs and components in my old calibra's to something less conspicuous in the Tuscan, they never fail to impress. So if anyone is in the market for a set of speakers, for the money I don't think you'll find better than the infinity kappa's.

Now the search for a blue tooth head unit for under £150..
