Pug 1.9 suspension choice
Discussion
Hi all, now the brakes are sorted with drilled discs, new pads and goodridge lines, I'm looking at the suspension.
Lots of choice out there, bilstein, avo, spax and koni etc commonly offering a choice of -30mm or -55mm lowering. Anyone had experience of these setups? I'm after a spring and damper kit for all four corners and what to trackday and commute in the pug. Not worried about it being too firm on the road, I can live with that but I'm thinking the less extreme of -30mm is probably the best compromise. Anyone recommend a reseller; I'm looking at DZDesign at the moment....the adjustable konis are: www.dcdezign.com/details.asp?item=SSK9&vehicle_ref=281
I've been told that spax is just nasty maxpower stuff and that bilstein or nitron is the way ahead if costs is not a factor, or koni / avo for us lesser motals. Any comments?
Thanks stew,
I'm fairly decided now upon a set of Avo coilovers. Height and damper adjustable (less height on the rear due to the torsion bar). As I have done about 3.5K on the std suspension and people have done 124K on it before me, I'm hoping to notice some improvement!!!
Anyone else test suspension on the road from Islip to Arncott (near Bicester)?
Avo coilover kits
Avo's are good but have a tendency to leak.
Skip Brown Cars developed a Bilstein shock that they revalved for the 205. I've got them on the rear and they are amazing.
Add that to their progressive springs, their shocks up front and negative camber kiyt on the rear and you will be very impressed. None of this is adjustable but it doesn't really need to be.
£80 each for the rears
£130 each for the front,

I can only find a Gaz kit for £440 on ebay, and those bilstein shocks sound great but I have ordered the Avo ones now. As I said, they won't be on the car for Weds at CC, but probably work out for the best. I'll hopefully some good footage as it is (with times) and then be able to compare with the Avo setup and better brakes.
We'll see, I post some pics of the Avos and again once they are on. Cheers for the advice all!
i need it more for a lowering aspect rather than handling. this is the clearest pic of how horrendously high the ride height is. please note the rear isnt always like that. it jacked itself up cos i was parked on a slope and if i pushed the back end down i swear my car would of rolled backwards into the stream. hence the rocks behind the rear wheels for little extra piece of mind.

yeah i know about the torsion bar business, for a while my car was the complete opposite, the arse end was utterly slammed for a while last year. im not sure if my current beam is good or not. i thought about getting a spare one and reconning it and lowering at the same time, as last time i had a beam apart it was touch and go wether it would be rescue-able and i was about 40 miles from home at the time :s
unforunately there is no way of telling wether a beam is good or not until you pull it apart, and about 50% are beyond economic repair, it costs about £200 for the bare minimums by all accounts
