UPRATING BRAKES MK2 GOLF GTI 16VALVE
Discussion
Depends on your budget & what you are trying to achive- what do you have now? 239 or 256mm? (239 early cars 256 later)
Porsche brakes or Brembos are top banana, & make your head go dizzy when braking hard- not cheap tho & dont fit under all wheels- generally 16 inch min, or on a tighter budget go G60 280 set up- 15 inch min.
I run uprated 256mm, braided lines, decent fluid, new calipers, uprated pads(*), Brembo discs & its fine, not outstanding by any means but fine for me.

ref pads
this thread may be useful pads wise if you run 256 or 280 here-

Ive run Mintex 1144, & EBC yellow race & not been particuly happy with either- esp the yellows awful things & ive tried 2 differnt sets, & now stick with Pagid FRs. There are many other pad types around but lot lots more ££ & the pagidFRs dont last long (1 Td roughly) but are kind to discs & are cheap.

I mean a steel disk is a steel disk no matter who it’s made by and the same can be said for callipers etc (Assuming the mechanical properties are the same).
I would guess that the latter does not apply to Brembo/AP/ etc. callipers vs. OE ones - billet alloy four/six pots vs. cast grey iron sliding callipers and all...
