I've bought a second-hand Peugeot 107 and have just noticed it has 155/65R14 tyres at the rear but 165/65R14 at the front. It needs new front tyres (tread depth is low) so should I get the same size or revert to 155? When I enter the reg into tyre sites like Blackcircles, that's the only option they automatically come up with.

Put on the factory-correct size.

Check a few websites like Kwik Fit, Halfords, Black Circles using your registration to see what size should be on there. You can also hunt out some good examples of the model in the classifieds and look af the photos of the wheels to see what size tyre is on them.

Then put the correct size on.

Yes, that's my hunch too - thank you. Will I notice the effect? Google suggests wider tyres "steer the car" more than thinner ones, but not sure how pronounced this is.

They might and at a small variance you probably won’t notice.

My wife said that 2cm at the front can make a bit of a difference but generally it’s more how you drive it.

You might find the 165s are cheaper, or maybe the fitter was just incompetent and/or just flogged what was in stock.

I'd go back to standard though.

A quick look suggests the 155s are cheaper, so probably just "what was lying around" was mis-sold.

OP.
Check the B-pillar on the driver's door, it should show the correct sizes & any optional sizes on the sticker.

Previous owner was perhaps trying to 'correct' the speedo reading?

Back in the 90‘s I fitted 185 at the front and 165 at the rear of my car make it more pointy and less understeery. Kind of worked!
