BMW F11 530D.
Rear N/S tyre consistently showing signs of what looks like rubbing/abrasion rather than outright wear but I cannot see where or how it is touching anything. The camber must be severely out for it to be wear. It doesn't 'look' out and wheel alignment check was done between tyre changes when the issue was first noticed. Anyway, it suddenly got hugely worse and the result is pictured below.

I'm going to put a new tyre on, drive around for a day or so and monitor any strange patterns. I will paint the inside shoulder of the tyre and see if the paint transfers anywhere.

Perhaps it's when the car is fully loaded and the rear air suspension is doing something odd? I'm really not sure right now. Interestingly also the tyre pressure monitor did not alert me to this failure. So it's possible also this tyre was underinflated for a little while (haven't checked for a few weeks).

Common issue with bigger/heavier BMWs.

Rear tyres very wide, too much negative camber, heavy cornering & possibly some under pressure running to help the mix.

I picked up two wheels yesterday from a place I have used for years for wheel refurbishment or straightening. Whilst I was getting my wheels I saw a wheel that looked just like yours and I asked what did that .
They said it was usually under inflation or camber or both , however in this case it was torn by a pothole. It did look like your tyre.

The rear tracking was out on my Jag XF when it did something similar. Had it put right and no issue since.
