I m considering getting a set of Yoko A052 tyres for my NSX.
Has anyone had experience of their performance in the wet?
Type of wet ?Has anyone had experience of their performance in the wet?
Just damp, heavy rain ? standing water ?
I have them on one car, and certainly on cold wet roads recently, they did not impress. Although I didn't try back to back with a sporty road tyre to see if indeed they would be better
But the rest of the year on warmer drier or dry roads, they felt fine.
Really for wet roads, a modern UHP Michelin PS4, PS5, Goodyear Assy6, Conti 7 etc etc should probably be a first port of call IMO.
Even on track my Conti Premium contact 6/7 on a cold but sunny track were only 1s a run slower than a warmer also dry sunny day on the A052's about 6 weeks earlier
And I actually had a big lockup from around 125mph on the 52's flatspotting two of them, hence I swapped back to my old Conti tyres for next event.
The rear was looser on the Conti's, but braking actually felt a lot better.
It and other tests really do make me question whether some of these track focused tyres really are much better, if at all than good proper road tyres these days. ( also do sprints and hills, which are all cold starts, and short runs, so tyres never really get heat in to them )
Now perhaps doing multiple laps, the track tyres may shine, but that's not what I have used any of them for as I don't do track days etc.
Here's a test that makes reference to wet/rain, although not hard driving in it. Although from his graphs, although some speeds are higher, actual braking performance, the braking ability lines seem identical.

Jon's Tyre reviews never really seems to test tyres like these against the UHP or UUHP tyres to get some data on real performance, wet/dry braking etc. Or more to the point, he never really seems to do many track type tyres at all. I did find one test, but it was dry only. So not helpful, for people who might daily them or see rain, or even a wet track day.
Or
Although not against a UHP road tyre
